Gerard Pique has been ruled out for three weeks and will miss Barcelona's Champions League return clash at Manchester City.

The centre-back turned his ankle before half-time in Wednesday night's 4-0 Champions League hammering of City at the Nou Camp.

The club has confirmed that the 29-year old will be on the sidelines for some crucial upcoming encounters - including the return to City on 1 November.

As well as the trip to Manchester Pique could miss La Liga games with Valencia, Granada and Sevilla.

A Barcelona statement read: "Gerard Pique has sprained the external lateral ligament in the right ankle, and the estimated time he will be out will be three weeks.

Fellow defender Jordi Alba had to be replaced after just nine minutes and he is expected to be out for two weeks.

Boss Luis Enrique said: "It's always worrying when you lose players through injury.I'm certain we will find it difficult in Manchester."
