Suarez™ Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 MCLAREN This year’s Mecum Monterey auction during Pebble Beach Week looks to be collector-car heaven with a twist: the complete holy trinity of hybrid hypercars crossing the block. Lot R503 is a 2014 LaFerrari with 211 miles. Lot R324 is a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach with 1,957 miles and Lot R383 is a 2014 McLaren P1, serial No. 2, with 576 miles. Leave your checkbook; bring your banker. The auction takes place Aug. 18-20. LAFERRARI Each one of these cars has a little something special for what’s sure to be a several million dollar price tag. The LaFerrari is one of three with this “Nero DS Opaco” paint, which looks like a semigloss black. The 6.3-liter V12, along with the hybrid drive, is good for 949 hp and a top speed of 217 mph. We did some bench racing a few years ago; the LaFerrari took it with stats, carrying a 2.91 weight-to-power ratio -- that’s 2.91 pounds per horse, though each horse costs $1,368. When new, the now-sold-out LaFerrari went for about $1.4 million; this one will surely go for more. PORCHE 918 Finally, we have the Porsche 918 with the Weissach package. That package deletes some interior bits, takes off some weight, adds magnesium wheels and some aero aids, and charges you $84,000 for the privilege. This one has a matte black wrap and features exposed carbon fiber to go along with its 887 hp and 4.11 pounds per horse. Each of those horses cost $952. There are bunch of other featured lots as well, including an Aston Martin Vulcan, a 1933 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe and a ’66 Ford GT40 Mk I. This year’s event is at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa at the Del Monte Golf Course. Go to mecum.com for more information and click here to register to bid. You don’t have to attend to take one these home, but you will need some serious cash. 1
