The Spaniard of Moto2 Luis Salom died this Friday after an accident in the circuit of Momtmeló, in Barcelona, informed the organization of the World Motorcycling Championship said in a statement.

"After an incident in the trainings of Moto2 at the Circuit de Catalunya we have to communicate with great sadness the death of Luis Salom," the statement said.

The pilot of the team SAG Team had been transferred to the General Hospital of Catalonia after the accident occurred during the second free practice session for the Grand Prix of Catalunya.

"It was subjected to a surgical intervention upon arrival at the hospital, but despite the efforts of the team of traumatology, died at 16.55 local time", the statement added.

Salom debuted in the category of 125cc in Jerez in 2009 and managed to get on the podium in 25 races, nine of them in the championship of Moto3.

In 2012 he was runner-up in the world of Moto3 and third a year later.
