George RR Martin has reassured Game of Thrones fans that he’s very much alive after many of them misread news headlines which announced the sad passing of the Beatles producer Sir George Martin.

Sir George passed away on Tuesday evening aged 90. Often dubbed the ‘fifth Beatle’, Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney led tributes to the man who helped the band achieve their unprecedented success.

After the announcement was made, a number of Game of Thrones fans rushed to Twitter to describe their shock and subsequent relief that it wasn’t the series’ author who had died, especially since fans are eagerly awaiting the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, of which Game of Thrones is based.

Martin has now addressed the confusion in a blog post on his website, where he used the words of Mark Twain to sum up false assumptions of his passing.

“While it is strangely moving to realise that so many people around the world care so deeply about my life and death, I have to go with Mark Twain and insist that the rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

“It was Sir George Martin, of Beatles fame, who has passed away. Not me.”
