Watch Fracking Protesters Invade 'Monday Night Football' Broadcast

We Are Cove Point protesters inside Bank of America Stadium on Monday.

 

 

Ever since the NFL stopped allowing fans to bring handbags and purses to games in 2013, we've been forced to stuff our belongings into officially licensed "All Clear" bags or a one-gallon Ziploc bag.

 

But as we learned on Monday, security is pretty lenient when it comes to approving the contents of those bags.

During the second half of ESPN's Monday Night Football matchup between the Panthers and Colts, two protesters rappelled from the upper deck of Bank of America Stadium to unfurl a banner that read "BOA: Dump Dominion" – their attempt at giving the finger to the banking behemoth for financing a liquefied natural gas facility run by Dominion Resources in Lusby, Maryland.

How they managed to bypass security with heavy-duty climbing equipment, nobody knows. But after hanging in front of the press box for several minutes – and briefly making the ESPN broadcast – the pair of protesters made their way to solid ground and were arrested. The Charlotte Observer reports that two other individuals were also taken into police custody for their roles in the stunt.

 

 

 

 

Hey, it's better that the usual signage we see at NFL games. Meanwhile, We Are Cove Point, the organization behind the protest, has launched a campaign to cover the bail of the four people arrested. We're willing to bet Roger Goodell won't be chipping in, though with all the money the NFL brought in from those "All Clear" bags, he could spare a few bucks.
