Android Auto Coming to Chevrolet MyLink Vehicles in March

Chevrolet has announced that, starting in March, a software update will bring Android Auto to 2016 model-year cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with the MyLink infotainment system.

As previously reported by Edmunds, compatibility with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be a standard feature on 14 Chevrolet vehicles in 2016. New models started getting CarPlay as they began rolling out in June, and now Android users will be able to add their system of choice.

To get the software update, owners will need to visit their Chevrolet dealer.

Chevy notes that eligible 2016 models with the 7-inch MyLink screen include the Spark, Cruze (except Limited), Malibu (expect Limited), Camaro, Camaro Convertible, Silverado and Silverado HD.

Those with the 8-inch screen include those listed above, plus the Impala, Volt, Corvette, Corvette Convertible, Tahoe and Suburban.

Both CarPlay and Android Auto place many smartphone features on a vehicle's in-dash display, allowing users to talk on the phone, send and receive messages, control music functions and access a variety of apps, all from the touchscreen or by voice.

Android Auto compatibility requires a phone running the Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system or higher, while Apple CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or later.

Edmunds says: Although they'll have to wait until March for a retrofit, Android users are sure to appreciate the number of Chevrolet vehicles that will be compatible with their smartphones.
