But if today's reports are to be believed, the Magpies are expected to knock back Arsene Wenger's efforts to bring the 25-year-old to the Emirates. Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of the Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United. Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda has suggested that Suarez 'will almost certainly go in the winter window' due to being behind Gabi, Tiago, Raul Garcia and Saul Niguez in the pecking order. Arsenal, United and Liverpool have all been told by AC Milan to cough up £11.5m if they want to sign Stephan El Shaarawy during the winter window. The Serie A giants are interested in selling the Italian forward in order to create funds for a squad makeover.
