The Argentina winger was sidelined for three weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 3-0 victory over Hull on November 29. Di Maria returned to action as a second-half substitute in United's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last week and played the final half-an-hour. But manager Louis van Gaal could welcome him back to his starting XI for the visit of the Magpies to Old Trafford. Nicolas Gaitan Di Maria has told Van Gaal to complete the signing of his Argentina compatriot Nicolas Gaitan. Portuguese newspaper A Bola claim Di Maria hopes he has done enough to convince the United boss to go all out to sign the Benfica midfield star. The 26-year-old only signed a new five-year deal at Benfica last month, but that fresh contract does include a £27.5m release clause. Title Challenge Van Gaal has set his sights on winning the Premier League title this season. United currently sit in third-place, 10 points behind leaders Chelsea. But Van Gaal believes United can be England's top dogs come the end of the season. "We are looking in a football world where No. 1 is the most important thing," he said. "Our goal is to be first. It's not always so easy, you can see that."
