Paul Georges- Ntep has told the French media why he choose to ignore the advances of Queens Park Rangers in the last winter transfer window. The West London side were close to bringing in the young Frenchman last January but instead he joined Ligue 1 side Rennes where he has become one of the stars of French football.

Le10 Sport have reported on comments Ntep made to French TV when he was asked about his opportunity to go abroad earlier this year. He said that in a player’s career you only get a few choices and at that time he preferred to remain in France and show that he could make it in the top flight of French football after impressing in Ligue 2 with Auxerre. He realised that Rennes was the perfect club to join and therefore ignored the advances of the likes of QPR and other foreign clubs.

“We know that a career that is played with a few choices. I preferred to stay in France to confirm what I had shown in Ligue 2, and I think that Rennes is the perfect club for that,” said Nteps on his decision to ignore a move abroad.

We covered the story last January that Auxerre president Guy Cotret had received a bid from QPR for Ntep but it didn’t met the valuation set by the French club. It was never disclosed to what QPR offered but it is likely that is was lower than the €6m fee his club Auxerre were asking. Rennes agreed to pay this but the ultimate decision came down to the player. Rennes managed to offer the personal terms he is wanting and he therefore joined the French side at the end of January.
