The spy shots, the teasers, the Nürburgring testing and even a dubious celebrity launch event – Jaguar’s crucial XE has dominated the headlines this year. The fact that the baby saloon will outsell the rest of the Jaguar line-up combined is reason alone for it to be one of 2015’s most important models. But there’s more reason than just flag-waving patriotism to be rooting for the Ian Callum-designed XE. For a start, it’s cleaner than the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, and capable of a claimed 99g/km and 75mpg. Its interior at last showcases a much needed new infotainment system for Jaguar Land Rover, while its rear-drive chassis reportedly uses dynamic lessons learned from the XFR and F-Type.
