Audi confirms the development of future electric A9
Audi confirms the development of the new A9 e-tron, a new sports saloon that will power the new model flagship brand of hoops, with the latest advances in autonomous driving.
It will have three electric motors of 500 hp and 800 Nm of torque, and a maximum range around 500 kilometers.
It was the visible head of Audi itself, Rupert Stadler, who has confirmed to the media the development of the new Audi A9, a new sports electric sedan positioned on the current A8 range and come in direct contention with the Model S Tesla Motors .
No official name for now, the media have already christened the future A9 e-tron and would be based on the platform of the next crossover Q6 e-tron, the new electric SUV of the Ingolstadt brand that was advanced in the form of e-tron quattro concept which was presented at the last Frankfurt Motor Show 2015.
In recent years, we have waited for the arrival of this new sports sedan, advanced in part by the concept Prologue whose images illustrate this article, although the desire of the brand to turn this into the technological standard of the range had delayed the project, since even they were shuffled segments. Now confirmed, we know that the new A9 e-tron is a luxury sedan with sporting dyes which will feature new longitudinal modular aluminum platform of the German mark, and the devices and features autonomous driving to premiere next year new Audi A8.
In this regard, the new A8 will feature three levels of automation, but the A9 premiere new systems that allow you to be the first Audi to have up to four levels.
If you look at the technical specifications of the e-tron quattro concept newly introduced, this three electric motors mounted, two on the rear axle and one on the front, with ample space to house the batteries in the center of the chassis. For this prototype, Audi announced a power of 435 hp in Drive mode, which increased to about 503 hp by activating the Sport mode. While autonomy was estimated at more than 500 kilometers, so we can expect a similar performance in the new electric A9.
According to officials of the brand, the torque is distributed to all four wheels intelligently, being distributed on the rear axle individually on each of the wheels. The transmission will have two modes, Drive and Sport.
The batteries will be similar to those used in the e-tron quattro concept, of 95 kWh liquid cooled with wireless charging technology and automatic parking system, which will put the vehicle on the platform of recharge.
