Not only will there be a new royal leader of the United Kingdom after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but things around the country – from the national anthem to money – will change as well.
After the announcement of the monarch's death Thursday, her eldest son and heir, Prince Charles, 73, became King Charles III.
Plans had been in motion for the queen's death for years, known as Operation London Bridge, as well as plans to begin the king's reign, known as Operation Spring Tide. But there are still things that will change in coming days, months and possibly years. Here are some things expected to be different in the U.K.:
The national anthem
The national anthem for the U.K. is "God Save the Queen." With Charles on the throne, the name will change to "God Save the King."All lyrics will stay the same, except mentions of the queen will change to "king." All pronouns in the anthem will also be changed to "he" and "him."
Money
All currency in the UK, known as the pound sterling, features the queen's portrait, which will eventually be replaced with the king's portrait. The Guardian reports about 4.5 billion bank notes are in circulation with the queen's portrait, and it would take at least two years before the king appeared on them.
The queen also appears on some bank notes and coins in Canada and other Commonwealth nations, but the status of new portraits is unclear in those countries.
What experts say about the situation
"It's well within the British government's right to place limits on delegation sizes," said Lewis Lukens, who served served as deputy chief of mission of the U.S. Embassy in London from 2016-2019.
British authorities don't try to determine who gets invited to an event such as a royal funeral, "they let the countries decide who (participates)," Lukens said.
If, for example, Biden and the first lady had not been able to attend and the U.S. decided to send Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff, the "Brits would be OK with that," Lukens said.
In some cases, the British government might make an exception and allow the U.S. to bring a larger delegation because of the special relationship between the two longtime allies. But not in this case because of “high demand” for seats, Lukens said.
Even if Biden had been allowed to bring ex-presidents with him, Trump probably would not have been invited, political analysts said.
The animosity between the two men is so poisonous – Trump still refuses to accept the results of the 2020 election, while Biden accused Trump and MAGA Republicans in a prime-time address of threatening the very foundations of democracy – that it’s unfathomable that Biden would ask Trump to join him at the queen’s funeral, political analysts said.
"Trump never so much as acknowledged Biden’s win in 2020, and for all sorts of well-documented and well-understood reasons, Trump represents a distinct threat to our own democracy," said William Howell, a political scientist at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy. "The honorable thing, right now, is not to bring Trump back into the fold."
Former presidents have historically been called on to represent the country at such events as a way to demonstrate American friendship, goodwill and respect, Engel said. Trump, however, is different, Engel said, noting the former U.S. president's unpo[CENSORED]rity with the British public.
Just 32% of people in the U.K. expressed confidence that Trump would do the right thing regarding world affairs in a Pew Research Center survey in January 2020.
Politics aside, there’s an even more practical reason for Trump to stay away from the queen's funeral, Engel said. “One shouldn't do anything that's going to overshadow the person who died,” he said. “And the (queen’s) funeral is not about the American presidents or American politics. The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement would be signed in a virtual ceremony by Trade Minister Dan Tehan and India's Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, and both countries would continue to work towards a full free trade deal, the federal government said on Friday.
Speaking to reporters in Tasmania, Morrison said he and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi would witness the virtual ceremony.
"These are never all or nothing deals as far as we're concerned, we see all of these as the next step and the next step and the next step," he said, expressing both countries intention to build closer trade ties.
Morrison's government is seeking to diversify export markets and reduce Australia's dependence on its biggest trading partner China, after diplomatic spats led to Beijing sanctioning certain Australian products.
The deal with India removes tariffs on more than 85% of Australian goods exports to India, worth A$12.6 billion, rising to almost 91% over 10 years.
Tariffs will be scrapped on sheep meat, wool, copper, coal, alumina, fresh Australian rock lobster, and some critical minerals and non-ferrous metals to India.
It will see 96 per cent of Indian goods imports enter Australia duty-free.

zoo is now being investigated for a breach of animal rights protections.
Three chimpanzees have been shot dead and four remain on the loose after mysteriously escaping from their enclosure in Sweden's Furuvik zoo.
The animals sprung themselves from their enclosure at midday on Wednesday (Dec. 14) to be met with gunfire from staff, who zoo officials claimed would have been put at considerable risk had they attempted to tranquilize the apes. One chimp was wounded by the bullets and returned to its enclosure by itself, but has so far been unable to receive medical attention, meaning that it could have died.
Furuvik zoo, situated around 104 miles (168 kilometers) north of Stockholm, had been closed for the end of the season when the chimps escaped by unknown means. The group, consisting of seven animals, are po[CENSORED]r in Sweden and their deaths have sparked public outrage. Furuvik zoo has responded by insisting that the killings were necessary.

"Chimpanzees can be perceived as peaceful, but they are extremely dangerous. They are fast, very strong and generally fearless. It can quickly escalate into a life-threatening situation," The zoo wrote on its Facebook page(opens in new tab) on Thursday (Dec. 15). "Therefore, we unfortunately had to make the decision to euthanize three of the chimpanzees that had left their enclosure. This is not something we take lightly. The safety of people is always our top priority."
Three of the killed chimps have been identified by the zoo as Linda, Santino and Torsten. Linda, born in 1980, was brought to the zoo after her family was killed by poachers in Liberia. Santino was born in 1978 and was renowned for his love of art(opens in new tab), as well as being the favorite chimp of Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria. (Both Victoria and her sister, Princess Madeleine, are believed to own paintings made by the ape.)
Torsten, a juvenile, was born in captivity in 2019 and was just 3 years old. His parents — Maria-Magdalena and Tjobbe — are among the three survivors. Another chimp, Manda, the adopted daughter of Linda, was heavily injured by the staffs' bullets and may have since succumbed to her wounds.
The park has defended the actions of its staff, claiming that they would have not been able to anesthetize the animals without endangering themselves.
"Anesthesia is not an option when a chimpanzee ventures outside its enclosure at risk to human safety," The zoo wrote on Facebook. "To shoot with an anesthetic arrow, you need to be very close to the animal. This, combined with the fact that it can take up to 10 minutes for the anesthetic to take effect, would mean a great danger to people's safety. When a chimpanzee is loose in the park, you therefore unfortunately have to shoot to kill."
The decision to euthanize the animals has received widespread opprobrium from Swedish animal rights organizations, the public and the press.
"It should not have been necessary to shoot the escaped apes," Ing-Marie Persson, a former caretaker who worked with the chimps for 30 years at the park told the Swedish newspaper Afton Bladet(opens in new tab). "It is deplorable. So poorly done."
Swedish police confirmed on Thursday that the incident has been reported as a violation of Sweden's Animal Welfare Act, which says that animal enclosures have to be escape-proof.
"It is clear that this has not been the case," Jonas Eronen, a press spokesperson for the police, told(opens in new tab) the Swedish news site Ekot.
Chimps owe their formidable strength, which is 1.35 times greater than that of humans, despite their smaller size, to an increased quantity of fast-twitch muscle fibers responsible for strength and speed. While chimpanzees tend to be afraid of people in the wild, captive animals are far more accustomed to humans and therefore much more likely to attack. During attacks, chimps focus on peoples' faces, feet, hands and genitals. The Jane Goodall Institute UK(opens in new tab) notes that chimps are often unsatisfied and understimulated in human environments, increasing the danger they may pose to themselves and others.
