  1. The Nintendo Switch may not have been a runaway success if it hadn't launched with the unassailable masterpiece that is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game radically reworked Nintendo’s beloved, action-RPG series into a spectacular new form that honors the franchise's original spirit. Its sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, provides an even grander open-world Hyrule to explore on land and in the sky. However, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are far from the only Zelda games you can play on the Switch. Zelda is one of Nintendo’s oldest, most acclaimed, and most influential franchises. So, naturally, many games inspired by Zelda have found their way to the handheld/console hybrid. With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom finally arriving (and, hopefully, Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD coming in the near future), you might be inspired to play more Zelda and Zelda-adjacent games on your Switch. Now, no Zelda game is truly "bad," so no shade to Oceanhorn coming in last place. Instead, think of this list as going in order from "pretty good" to "greatest game of all time." 2. You may not be familiar with the term "romance app," but if developer Voltage has its way, the video game genre will be familiar to everyone. Women, particularly. Voltage's romance apps, sporting such names as To Love & Protect, My Forged Wedding, and Kissed By The Baddest Bidder, are visual novel-like love simulations designed for Android and iOS mobile devices. The titles' gameplay consists of selecting an attractive male suitor (from archetypes that include bad boys and nerds), and picking actions from a menu. For example, if a strapping young man approaches you, you can take action by shyly looking away or kissing him. Many of the company's 60-plus titles feature multiple endings in the Good/Better/Best mold. Voltage's games have touched over 26 million players worldwide, but its core audience is Japanese women ages 19-44 (with the majority of women in that age group being in their 30s). According to a Voltage survey, 60 percent of the women who play romance apps play them before going to bed in order to refresh their minds. 3. Blizzard Entertainment has a new weapon in its arsenal to help stamp out abuse and toxicity in Overwatch 2: audio recordings and text transcriptions. In the latest patch notes for the game, Blizzard explains how audio transcriptions are now being used when a player is reported for disruptive behavior. At that point, a temporary audio recording is used to automatically create a text file transcript using a speech-to-text program. Once the transcription is finished, the audio file is deleted and nobody ever listens to it. The patch notes make it clear that recordings are only ever made after a player is reported, and only for chats from public voice channels. Any disruptive behavior in team and match chat can therefore be recorded, but group "party" chat is exempt. Players will also receive a notification when entering voice chat for the first time after this feature is enabled informing them their chats may be recorded. For now, the voice recordings are only active in "select countries" for PC players, but Blizzard doesn't give any details regarding which countries. Players will know if they are being monitored from the notification mentioned above. Link: https://www.pcmag.com/news/blizzard-is-now-recording-transcribing-toxic-overwatch-2-voice-chats
  4. The police were first made aware of suspicious messages targeting men at Westminster late last year - but did not warn MPs, the BBC has learned. Many of those targeted in the alleged "honeytrap" scandal did not realise others had also been receiving messages until media reports in the past week. It now emerges the Metropolitan Police began an investigation last year when Commons security staff were alerted. It raises questions about whether more should have been done to warn MPs. Most of the targets the BBC is aware of - including at least one MP - did not receive messages until this year, after the Metropolitan Police were first warned about the issue. Honeytrap Tory MP right to apologise, says Sunak How I was targeted in the Westminster honeytrap Concerns have been raised that the unsolicited, flirtatious WhatsApp messages from people calling themselves "Charlie" or "Abi" were part of an organised attempt, possibly by a hostile state, to compromise or blackmail politicians, a technique known as a honeytrap. It is understood that what was reported to the police last year was much more limited than the scale of the issue that has since come to light. Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-68787045
  5. Plans have been submitted for a new animal enclosure at Knowsley Safari Park. The application, on behalf of the Earl of Derby, is to create a 29m (95ft) long building with 30 pens for animals as part of its Africa reserve. They would fulfil an "immediate need" for housing the application says. The pens, including external enclosures, would house animals during wetter months and include a central hub. The building would be located close to Park Farm in the Africa Reserve section of the Merseyside park and include a store room for feed supplies. The need for the additional area emerged after a review of the park's infrastructure, including a "proactive review of the animal species held within the safari, their welfare needs and the existing facilities provided", the Local Democracy Reporting Service said. The site, formerly part of the deer park, currently has no trees and is an "underutilised" piece of land at the site with "low ecological value". Without the new facilities this could "have the potential to impact on the business moving forwards as it could potentially result in the closure of this element of the Safari Drive, impacting revenue, the wider economy and employment" according to the application. The Safari park currently generates over £10m a year, according to documents submitted as part of the application, providing dozens of jobs in the local area and other "direct and indirect economic benefits to Knowsley and the Liverpool City Region". Opened in 1971, the park, owned by the family estate of the Derby family, historic landowners in the area, attracts around 600,000 visitors a year. The application is currently open for comments, with a decision expected from the local authority by mid November. Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-merseyside-67071290
  6. Alfa’s body, Alfa’s choice. Except, it kinda isn’t. Following a ban on its use of the name Milano by the Italian government, Alfa has had to very hastily rename its shiny new electric car. So less than a week after it was first introduced, we bid thee farewell, Milano, and a warm, Schwarzenegger welcome to the Alfa Romeo… Junior. Yup, not only a mid-Nineties Ivan Reitman comedy, but now a compact SUV that shares a base with a Vauxhall Corsa. “During one of the most important weeks for the future of Alfa Romeo, an Italian government official declared that the use of the name Milano is banned by law,” Alfa said. “Despite Alfa Romeo believing that the name meets all legal requirements, and that there are issues much more important than the name of a new car, Alfa Romeo has decided to change it from Milano to Junior in the spirit of promoting mutual understanding.” Link: https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/alfa-romeo-milano-no-more-its-now-called-alfa-romeo-junior

  8. Ajwain, the age-old spice, has multitude of benefits in summer season. A cup of ajwain tea in morning can ease digestion, boost appetite and work wonders for your metabolism, aiding in weight loss. Ayurveda considers ajwain or carom seeds as a powerful cleanser. The potent spice can help relieve bloating, acidity, constipation and promote gut health. Ajwain tea can be brewed by adding a teaspoon of carom seeds in a cup of hot water. 9. The FBI has opened a criminal investigation into the Baltimore bridge collapse, sources familiar with the matter told the BBC's US partner CBS. The investigation will examine the circumstances leading up to the incident, in which six people were killed. The Francis Scott Key Bridge fell on March 26 after it was struck by a large container ship called the Dali. Federal agents have been present at the site since, the sources said. In a statement on Monday, a spokesperson for the Department of Justice (DoJ) said the "FBI is present aboard the cargo ship Dali conducting court authorized law enforcement activity". 'A game of Jenga': Inside the perilous Baltimore bridge clean-up No further information will be shared publicly on the investigation at this time, the spokesperson said. Erek Barron, the US Attorney in Maryland who is aiding in the FBI investigation, said his office would not comment on the existence of a probe. But he said "the public should know, whether it's gun violence, civil rights abuse, financial fraud, or any other threat to public safety or property, we will seek accountability for anyone who may be responsible". 11. Though it’s not the most commonly-used gaming engine anymore, RPG Maker hasn’t so much left an impact on the gaming industry as it has a crater—and that’s especially true when looking at how clever developers have used it to contribute to the horror genre. Below are 7 of our favorite RPG Maker horror games that are perfect for spooky season, or any time of year that you're looking to play something a little bit darker. Want body horror that’ll make you squirm in your seat? We've got you covered. Craving something that’ll mess with your mind and make you jump at shadows? There’s something on the list for you. 12. Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is stepping out of retirement for a stint as an iOS app developer. The 83-year-old veteran of three Republican administrations has turned a decades-old game into a modern challenge. Churchill Solitaire—as in Sir Winston—features two decks, a "Devil's Six" row of cards, and timed scoring, and will leave you pulling out your hair as you aim for victory."When I learned the game from [a NATO colleague], I found it to be one of the most entertaining and strategic card games I'd ever played," Rumsfeld said in a statement.Begin your journey as a cadet at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, just as 18-year-old Churchill did in the late 1890s. 13. Best known for open-world juggernauts like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, developer Bethesda has set its sights on the cosmos with its first new IP in more than 25 years. Announced in 2018 with origins as far back as 2013, Starfield has been a long time coming. Attempting the impossible task of packing a universe of content into one $69.99 Xbox game (also available on PC), Starfield straddles the line between ambitious and lackluster. In a year of stellar, genre-shaping action RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Starfield’s gameplay feels a bit dated, not that much different from 2015’s Fallout 4. That’s not to say Starfield is bad—far from it. However, the space game is trapped under the weight of its lofty goals and promises. Link: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/starfield
  14. The US Supreme Court has slammed the door on Colorado's effort to remove Donald Trump from its presidential primary ballot - and on every other state that has made, or is considering, efforts to disqualify him. The top court ruled that only Congress has the power to strike the former president from the ballot under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The unsigned, unanimous ruling is a significant win for Mr Trump, whose presidential campaign can now proceed without roadblocks erected by individual state courts or election officials. In issuing its opinion, the nine Supreme Court justices sidestepped some of the biggest political landmines in this case. They did not opine on whether Mr Trump had, in fact, engaged in insurrection on 6 January 2021. They didn't discuss whether the attack on the US Capitol by the former president's supporters constituted an insurrection at all (or was a riot, as characterised by one of Mr Trump's lawyers). The court also didn't delve into whether presidents are specifically exempt from the 14th Amendment's insurrection language, another of Mr Trump's legal arguments in challenging the Colorado decision. 15. Wahey! Our custom Royal Enfield Continental GT is no longer an evolving sculpture on a workbench, rather an actual motorbike that makes noise, moves, and – most importantly – wheelies. But, having not turned a wheel in the last twelve months, it was time for a shakedown. Mainly to see if anything would fall off – notably the Malle panniers and duffel bag. However, losing one of our handmade wire wheels is also an equal possibility at this stage. So, we enlisted the help of Charlie Nesbitt, a Royal Enfield development rider who just happens to be BSB’s Rookie of the Year. Charlie is a different breed. When he’s not racing, he does 3,000-mile endurance tests around Bruntingthorpe – a former Cold War bomber air base that now doubles up as Royal Enfield’s private test track. Part of his remit is hilariously named ‘chassis abuse’. That includes everything from wheelies to hard braking, VMAX runs and coast downs. For 600 miles a day. 16. A zoo has received about 100 Christmas trees as part of an appeal to help enrichment for its animals. Hamerton Zoo Park in Cambridgeshire asked for people to donate their used trees which staff then add fish and nuts to for the three Syrian brown bears to play with. The trees have also been placed in enclosures for the lemurs, birds and big cats. Zookeeper Ben McRobie said: "We have given each of them their own tree to play with and decorated it not with baubles but, instead, with nuts and with fish." The zoo received its first tree a week ago and said its resident bears had taken "time off from their sleeping to have a little play". He said: "The trees will be used all year round. With the bears they generally get them last because they are most likely to destroy them but they get recycled from enclosure to enclosure with different animals getting their hands on the trees." Keepers said they have received so many trees, they don't have a great need for more. Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ced7p5y42kvo
  17. Scotland's Blair Kinghorn scored 23 points as five-time Investec Champions Cup winners Toulouse swept aside Exeter in style to reach the semi-finals. Romain Ntamack and Jack Willis scored tries in a tight first half as Exeter hit back through Ethan Roots. Toulouse took control in the second half and Kinghorn scored either side of Pita Ahki's try, before Antoine Dupont and Juan Cruz Mallia also crossed. Ahki and Mallia made it nine Toulouse tries to set up a tie with Harlequins. Baxter wary of new world club competition plans Follow the latest Exeter Chiefs news Exeter, winners in 2020, showed plenty of resolve in the opening period and Henry Slade's boot kept them within touching distance at the interval, having been ahead. But the Premiership side began to tire after the break and Toulouse were much improved as they kept the ball alive in contact to punish their visitors with six tries in the final 30 minutes. 19. US President Joe Biden has praised American forces who he said "helped Israel take down nearly all" the drones and missiles launched by Iran on Sunday. In a statement, he said the US had moved aircraft and warships to the region before the unprecedented attack. "I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms," he added. Israel said Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles in its direction, the first time it has attacked Israel directly from its own territory. It said the "vast majority" were intercepted, but there were a small number of hits including at an IDF base in southern Israel. At least one person, reported to be a young girl, was injured.Iran earlier warned that Israel would be "punished" for a strike on its consulate in Syria on 1 April, which killed seven Iranian officers including a top commander. Israel has not confirmed or denied whether it was responsible. "I've just spoken with Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu to reaffirm America's ironclad commitment to the security of Israel," Mr Biden said shortly after the pair held a call. "I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks," he added. Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-68810519
