Petro stated that the organization, after being released from US prisons, reactivated its illicit economies destined for Europe.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro denounced the existence of a transnational criminal network that, he said, originated in US prisons and now operates with considerable force in several Latin American and European countries.

In a message posted on his Twitter account, the president stated that this structure, known as the “New Drug Trafficking Board” (NJN), has managed to infiltrate business, sports, and intelligence sectors.

Petro asserted that the organization, after being released from US prisons, reactivated its illicit operations destined for Europe and consolidated alliances with Italian, Albanian, Mexican, and Uruguayan mafias.

In his message, he also mentioned the “mafia penetration” in Ecuador and Venezuela, suggesting that the network has extended its operations beyond Colombian territory.

“The drug cartel operates not only in soccer clubs but also in entertainment shows, the emerald and gold trades, and in its mafia-like infiltration of Ecuador and Venezuela,” said the Colombian president.

The president's statement comes after a report published by El País América, based on documents from the National Intelligence Directorate (DNI), which reveal how the NJN has infiltrated Colombian professional soccer and several private security companies.

According to the investigation, the tentacles of this organization reach countries such as Spain, Turkey, and Dubai, confirming its global reach.
