This May 2 marks 27 years since the physical departure of the Brazilian teacher Paulo Freire, who left a legacy in favor of teaching for the liberation of the most disadvantaged.

Born in the city of Recife, State of Pernambuco, on September 19, 1921, Paulo Freire studied law, psychology and philosophy at the University of his hometown. However, he never practiced these specialties, dedicating his life to the noble profession of teaching.

Freire held several management positions, becoming Brazil's minister of education. But his ideas in favor of the less favored classes marked his worldwide recognition.
