ぁ Ꭷbito-
The 'Central Intelligent Computing Center' has been designed to train large AI language models This ambitious machine is capable of handling, according to China Telecom, several million million parameters. China already has its first completely Chinese supercomputer. It has been developed by the telecommunications operator China Telecom and has been expressly designed to deal with the training of large artificial intelligence language models. The Central Intelligent Computing Center, which is what this machine is called, is not the first supercomputer with hardware and software components developed in China, but it is the first that does not contain, according to its creators, a single foreign technology. This machine is a first step in the field of supercomputers towards the technological independence that China aspires to achieve with the purpose of protecting its development from the sanctions that the US and its allies are deploying. China Telecom has announced it in style with the purpose of giving the maximum possible visibility to an important achievement for the country led by Xi Jinping. However, for the moment it has only revealed a few characteristics of the machine with which China seeks to display its technical muscle. China Telecom's secrecy raises some reasonable questions According to its creators, this supercomputer is capable of dealing with large language models that bring together several million million parameters. Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but this ambitious machine has seen the light practically at the same time that the latest statements by Gina Raimondo, the US Secretary of Commerce, have attracted attention in the media. According to the head of the Department of Commerce, this institution has proposed to the US Government to prevent Chinese companies from using the cloud services of Amazon, Microsoft, Google or other companies to train their artificial intelligence models. Precisely, as we have just seen, this is exactly what the supercomputer developed by China Telecom is used for: to train complex artificial intelligence language models. However, there are many important features of this machine that we do not know about. At the moment we do not know what processors it includes. China Telecom engineers may have opted for Zhaoxin KaiSheng KH-40000 chips with x86-64 architecture, but they may also have chosen Loongson's 32-core 3D5000 CPU, a processor with LoongArch microarchitecture implemented by this company on the MIPS architecture. Or another different option. https://www.xataka.com/ordenadores/china-acaba-dar-punetazo-mesa-tiene-listo-su-primer-superordenador-tecnologia-100-china
