She is a member of the South Korean group BLACKPINK, formed in 2016 by YG Entertainment. In 2021, she made her solo debut with the single album Lalisa, which includes the single of the same name. Born Pranpriya Manobal on March 27, 1997 in Buri Ram Province, Thailand, she later legally changed her name to Lalisa, which means "one who is praised", on the advice of a fortune teller, in order to bring prosperity. As an only child, she was raised by her Thai mother and Swiss stepfather. Lisa's mother is called Chitthip Brüschweiler. Her stepfather is Marco Brüschweiler, a renowned chef currently active in Thailand. Lisa completed her secondary education at Praphamontree School I and II. After starting dance lessons at the age of four, she regularly competed in dance competitions throughout her childhood, including in "To Be Number One", and joined the eleven-member dance team We Zaa Cool at the side of GOT7's BamBam. In September 2009, the group entered the LG Entertainment Million Dream Sanan World competition broadcast on Channel 9 and won the "Special Team" award. Lisa also participated in a singing competition as a school representative of "Top 3 Good Morals of Thailand" organized by the Center for Moral Promotion in early 2009, where she finished as runner-up. In 2010, 13-year-old Lisa auditioned to join South Korean record label YG Entertainment in Thailand. From a young age, Lisa was interested in the K-pop industry, admiring artists such as Big Bang and 2NE1, and wished to one day follow a similar path. Among the 4,000 applicants, she was the only person to qualify, which led then-CEO Yang Hyun-suk to offer Lisa the chance to become a YG Entertainment trainee. Lisa also impressed one of the judges, 1TYM's Danny Im, in the auditions, with him later praising her confidence on stage and her attitude off stage. In 2011, Lisa moved to South Korea to begin her formal training as a trainee, which lasted five years. She officially joined the label as its first non-ethnically Korean trainee on April 11, 2011. In November 2013, she appeared in Taeyang's music video for the single "Ringa Linga", where she was one of the background dancers, alongside from members of iKon and Winner.In March 2015, Lisa performed her first modeling job for street fashion brand Nona9on, following South Korean cosmetics brand Moonshot in 2016.
