Overwatch 2 is a first-person shooter video game. It was developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. It is a sequel to the 2016 hero shooter Overwatch. The game was designed to have a shared environment for player versus player (PvP) modes with the first game while also featuring persistent cooperative modes. One major change in PvP was reducing the size of teams from six to five, which required several characters to be reworked. The game had a closed beta in April and May 2022. The game was released as a free title in early access on October 4, 2022.

gameplay
Overwatch 2 is a hero shooter, where players are split into two teams and select one of over 30 established hero characters. Characters are divided into 3 classes: damage, the ones that do most of the team's offense against the opposing team; support, which provide heals and buffs to teammates; and tanky, who have a high damage threshold and can soak up damage aimed at their teammates. Each character has a different skill kit with a mix of active and passive skills, as well as a special ultimate power that can be used after charging up. Overwatch 2, as well as Overwatch, primarily features player vs. player battles across a number of different modes and maps, and includes both casual and ranked matchmade matches.

One significant change will be moving the gameplay to a 5v5 PvP mode, with the restriction of only allowing one tank in play on a team. According to Aaron Keller, the previous assignment for six players per team and two tanks made gameplay slower than they would have liked, and by moving to five players and removing one tank, they believed this speeded up the game. This further simplified the amount of action there was to see for both players and spectators. Therefore, new maps were designed to include more cover options due to the reduced presence of tanks.1 Heroes will have a general rework within their classes to make the game faster overall. Damage heroes will generally have increased movement speed, while support heroes will get some sort of self-healing passive. Tank heroes are expected to see the biggest change so they can take on more offensive roles. The heroes are also undergoing a visual update to reflect the few years of in-game time that have passed between the events of Overwatch and Overwatch 2.2 The game will include a ping system, similar to Apex Legends, for players to easily alert. to your teammates about points of interest on the map in addition to existing alerts.3

A new PvP mode, "Push", will be added, which works like a tug of war, where each team competes for control of a robot that pushes a team's cargo to the opponent's side of the map when one team controls it. Push will become part of the standard map rotation in the Overwatch League and will be available for Quick Play and Competitive Play.4 Some existing game modes may be removed in Overwatch 2; Kaplan has stated that two-checkpoint maps, such as Lunar Hill Horizon, are likely not available in Overwatch 2, as they have been difficult to balance in response to gameplay monitoring and player feedback.5

The game will have persistent player versus environment (PvE) modes. These are similar to special seasonal events, which will feature four-player co-op missions against computer-controlled opponents. In this mode, players can gain experience for the hero they are using, and at certain experience levels, unlock new passive abilities called talents that enhance the hero's current abilities, allowing them to customize how the hero plays. At least two PvE modes will be added: a story-based missions mode, in which players are limited to a selection of heroes when replaying Overwatch story-based missions, and hero missions that allow all heroes to be used to defend against waves of enemies. in various places. Blizzard anticipates that Overwatch 2 will launch with over 100 different missions, using new maps and expanding existing multiplayer maps to include new areas and adding dynamic effects such as night and day modes and weather effects. Enemy types will expand from the Null Sector robotic opponents used during seasonal PvE modes, adding new types with unique behavior.62

In May 2023 it was confirmed that in PvE mode (which is to be added) trees
