The construction of a new plant of the Electrolux Group in the state of Paraná, in Brazil, will benefit the Ecuadorian home appliance market. This, once the brand announced the investment that exceeds $140 million for the construction of the new plant, whose works are expected to begin in a month. With the completion of the first phase in the last quarter of 2024, the plant will go into production, operating at 30% of full capacity.

Currently, Electrolux Ecuador receives 20% of its product stock from Brazil and, from the start of operations of the new plant, it is expected to double the volume of products from that country. In this way, it is expected that by 2025, when it is estimated that the construction of the project will be completed, Ecuador will be able to receive and put on the market electrical appliances manufactured with a 100% sustainable production process.

According to the latest official figures from the Central Bank, Ecuador imported a total of $427 million in electrical machines and appliances, which represented a 13% drop compared to what was imported in the same period of 2022. However, in that year in total $1,620 million were imported with a growth of around 14% compared to 2011. The main supplier of these products for Ecuador is China.

Meanwhile, the brand reported that the investment and construction of the new plant are aligned with the objective of achieving climate neutrality in operations by 2030, and by 2050 sustainability throughout its value chain.

Leandro Jasiocha, CEO of Electrolux Group Latin America, explained that this factory will serve to expand the production capacity of current refrigeration lines and for the local and regional production of models that are currently imported from various parts of the world and that it will also represent the consolidation of the company in Brazil and in the rest of the continent.

“With this new unit we will expand our production capacity and product mix. We will be even more competitive, strengthening the economy of the region”, added the manager. It is expected that the economic returns, product of this important investment, will be transferred to all the countries of the continent where the brand is present, including Ecuador.

He affirmed that the 100% sustainable plant will become, from the beginning of its operations, the first Electrolux factory in Latin America with zero carbon emissions and 100% renewable energy. Like the rest of the Electrolux Group factories located in the region, the facilities will have intelligent water and energy management.

In the case of water, treated industrial/sanitary effluents will be reused and there will be a system dedicated to collecting rainwater. Additionally, all electrical power will come from renewable sources, including the use of solar panels. It should also be noted that the Leed certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is being processed, which will guarantee sustainability in all phases of implementation, from construction to operation.
