The human brain is very complex and is one of the most important organs in the body. In adolescents it continues to develop, which is why puberty is one of the most difficult stages.

In adolescence, the brain undergoes very important changes and these are some curiosities of this stage.

 

1. It stops growing but continues to mature.
When the brain stops growing, it does not stop maturing and developing until the ages of 25 and 30. The prefrontal cortex is the one that takes the longest to mature, its function controlling impulses.

In adolescents, as it is not fully developed, they are prone to not measure their actions, which in some cases are very risky.

 

2. What is its maximum size?
In girls, this organ reaches its maximum size around the age of 11, while in boys it oscillates at 14. The volume of the brain is not related to intelligence.

 

3. Mental disorders.

4. They need more hours of sleep than a child.
Pubertal children have higher concentrations of melatonin at night, this hormone is related to sleep. The more they witness in blood, the less desire to sleep the person has.

This explains why young people are awake until late at night and have a hard time getting up in the morning.


5. Stress sensitivity?
The brain, as it is in full development, makes adolescents more prone to developing disorders related to stress, depression and anxiety.

 

6. It fits easily.
In childhood, the brain has a great capacity to absorb knowledge. In adolescence this characteristic is still present. Academic, creative activities and physical exercise are beneficial to help the development of this organ.

 

7. The adolescent brain is strong.
Adolescence is a stage of many changes that make the brain prone to certain disorders. However, most young people reach adulthood without any kind of mental problem.
