Draeno Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 For a few days now, reports have been coming from users who claim that their new AMD Ryzen 7000X3D series processors are burning... literally. So much so, and so serious is the problem, that motherboard manufacturers are rushing to release BIOS updates for their motherboards to limit the voltage going to the processor, so if you have one of AMD's newer processors , hurry to update the BIOS to prevent this from happening to you. Motherboard BIOS updates are generally not necessary “if everything works fine for you”, and we usually only update it when we have problems or when we want to perform a hardware update on the computer. Well, this is one of the situations in which everyone should update to avoid problems. Some AMD Ryzen 7000X3D burn up At the moment, the exact cause of the problem is unknown, but speculation points to the EXPO overclock profiles for DDR5 RAM, which require excessive voltage. There are many users posting photos of their processors and motherboards literally burned on social networks (and we are going to show you some), but you should know that, for now, there was a common denominator to whom this has happened: they had overclocked the processor . Some analysts claim that the problem is not related to the EXPO profile, but rather a design flaw in AMD processors related to the V-Cache CCD chiplet, unique to -X3D models, and in our opinion has quite a bit of sense for the simple fact that this problem doesn't seem to happen on "normal" processors without such a suffix Does this mean you are safe if your processor is not overclocked? Probably yes, but to avoid greater evils, better update the BIOS as soon as you can. What seems certain, and this is no longer speculation, but as a result of the notes from the manufacturers themselves that they publish together with the BIOS updates, is that by limiting the voltage that is delivered to the processor, the problem is solved. Update your BIOS before you have problems As we said, many manufacturers of AM5 motherboards are already launching BIOS updates that limit the voltage that reaches the processor, thus closing the issue. In theory there should not be any kind of performance loss due to this, although you should bear in mind that in all probability there will be limitations when applying higher voltages to overclock, something that, on the other hand, almost no user does. on your personal computer. Manufacturers like BIOSTAR have already sent a press release this morning explaining the problem and linking to the BIOS that we should download and install depending on the affected motherboard model: BIOSTAR X670E Valkyrie BIOSTAR Racing B650E GTQ BIOSTAR B650M Silver Other manufacturers such as ASUS or Gigabyte have not issued a specific press release for now to warn of these BIOS updates, but for example ASUS in its ROG STRIX X670E-E Gaming WiFi already have the BIOS on their website dated yesterday, although notifying that it is a Beta version (and they do specify that the BIOS is to limit the voltage of the processor). https://hardzone.es/noticias/procesadores/amd-ryzen-7000x3d-actualizar-bios/
