He occupies the 9th position in the Top100 of the best DJs in the world, according to DJmag. Best DJ of the Year - Revista de Papel (2007). He is widely known for throwing cake to fans, and spraying champagne bottles. He is part of the musical group ''3 Are Legend'' composed also by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. His sister, Devon Aoki, is an actress and starred in the film Fast & Furious as Suki, among other films. Steve Aoki Hiroyuki was born in Miami and raised in Newport Beach (California). He graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1995, was a varsity player and star. His father is Hiroaki "Rocky" Aoki, a Japanese born in Tokyo, and his mother, Kobayashi Chizuru. His father was a former wrestler, who also founded the Benihana restaurant chain. He has two older brothers, Kana (now known as "Grace") and Kevin (Doraku Sushi) who owns the restaurant. He also has three younger half-siblings: Kyle, Echo and Devon Aoki, a supermodel and actress. As a child, Steve lived with his grandfather, mother and two older brothers. Aoki attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and graduated with two degrees, one in Women's Studies and one in sociology. In college, he produced his first productions and held concerts in Biko at the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative, which was located in Isla Vista, a residential area adjacent to UCSB. As a concert hall, the apartment was known as The Pickle Patch. At the age of 20, Aoki launched his own record label, Dim Mak and named it after his childhood hero, Bruce Lee. Numerous bands integrated, including This Machine Kills, who released an album on Ebullition Records, "Esperanza" and "Fire Next Time". One of his best songs (produced with Afrojack) was "No Beef".
