#Wittels- Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 SAN DIEGO, California - The San Diego County Animal Services department, Animal Services, launched a campaign that aims to find a home for the felines that are classifying as working cats, those that act less like companion animals and more as business partners. These working cats are in charge of rodent control, living inside buildings, barns and commercial premises, working to get rid of pests. Kelly Campbell, director of the Animal Services, said the county has stopped euthanizing animals it places for adoption. That includes cats that are rescued from hoarding situations, that were previously in places where they didn't socialize properly, or those that might be shy around people. Some of the cats the county rescues have never had a human bond and cannot learn to socialize to live well at home. He added that while many of these types of cats rescued by the Animal Service are not the best candidates for adoption into a home or apartment, they are perfectly suited for the job. These working cats can start a new life as pest control agents, ready and able to keep the invasive rodent po[CENSORED]tion low in larger spaces. Animal Service staff members say that working cats often thrive in pairs and find their comfort zone in close quarters such as barns, warehouses, churches and factories. They tend to stay out of sight while they have a safe space to go to.
