[Hardware] GALAX is already working on its next DDR5 RAM for gaming

The manufacturer GALAX has announced through its Facebook account that it already has its next generation of DDR5 RAM memory for the gaming segment in the mass production phase. With an image that shows dozens of memory chips and given that the announcement comes from the company's "OC Lab", we understand that these chips will be specially designed to overclock with them, since this manufacturer also tends to test all the memory chips one by one. chips to ensure its performance and stability.

GALAX DDR5

In the image we can see dozens of DDR5 DRAM chips manufactured by Micron Technology in a transport tray, which means that they must have received a generous batch of products with which to start the mass production of their RAM memories. Obviously in the photo we see a simple tray that is also half empty, but the reality is that these shipments - from Micron in this case - are palletized, which means that there are minimum quantities and these are usually counted in the thousands.

GALAX DDR5 RAM getting closer and closer
We have been talking about the next generation of RAM for a long time, and the reality is that there are already several models available (mainly engineering samples still) that have fallen into some lucky hands, but at the moment we are not seeing almost any commercial models that Furthermore, of course it has not yet reached the stores.

DDR5 Micron Chips

As we said, GALAX has only shown these DDR5 chips manufactured by Micron for now, but they will possibly be used to manufacture their RAM HOF memories since the announcement comes from the company's OC Lab, which is the one that markets these products precisely.

We're at a point where major gaming and overclocking memory brands are beginning to announce the development of DDR5 memory products, and by now you wonder where the platforms are for these memories. It is rumored that the next 12th generation Intel Core processors (Alder Lake-S) with LGA1700 socket could already incorporate it for the first time, while in the AMD side there is still nothing with its own name, but the next generation is expected - which would also see a socket change to the AM5- will already incorporate it as well.

Higher speed and density with less consumption
DDR5 RAM is right around the corner and it has a host of advantages over current DDR4. To begin with, its base frequency will be 4,800 MHz and can be found in densities of 128 GB per module from the beginning, although we can expect higher densities as time goes by. Similarly, SK Hynix already showed the first functional DDR5 module with a frequency of 5,200 MHz and at only 1.1V that consumed 30% less power compared to normal DDR4 RAM.

In this new generation of RAM memory, it has been sought to develop technologies that allow increasing the operating speed while maintaining the voltage, which will mean an improvement in efficiency. It has also sought to reduce electrical noise in data transmission (necessary to be able to increase the speed), for which a multiphase synchronization technology has been created that allows not to maintain but to reduce the voltage by integrating several phases on the same PCB.

All these numbers are very promising, but until we have the first commercial models on the street and, of course, the first platforms that support them, we will not be able to talk about empirical figures to buy the performance improvement and consumption reduction that it brings. this new generation of RAM memory.
