They are basically video games that have been in current memory even though they were published not very long ago, and among them is one written by Ken Levine and his best-known work: BioShock. This title was developed by Irrational Games and distributed by 2K Games, which is available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It was currently re-released in a remastered form for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the so-called: Bioshock The Collection, which includes the first game and its sequel, BioShock Infinite. The story of the game takes us to 1960 where our protagonist named Jack Wynand was traveling on a plane to go see his cousins in England, when suddenly the plane crashes and falls into the sea. Jack survives and realizes that everything is on fire. Our protagonist sees a lighthouse and decides to go there discovering that it is the entrance to a secret place. He decides to go down a bathysphere (a means of transport used in the game) and immediately arrives in Rapture, a city under the sea founded by a certain Andrew Ryan. The place is a dystopia, which is not ruled by capitalism, communism and religion, where there is no moral limit for science and art. But a world without a moral limit can have serious consequences. I don't want to talk any more about the plot, as it is one of those stories that is best discovered and contemplated on your own. Many of those who have already played it know what happens and the whole background of the story of Jack and the city of Rapture, but if you have never played this game, I will only describe the mechanics and gameplay, but when we get to the progression system , the thing will be a little different. Gameplay BioShock is a first-person shooter with exploration elements, where we will have to do missions and explore various areas of the city following the orders of Atlas. But our adventure through Rapture will not be friendly at all, since on our way we will run into the Splicers, citizens addicted to ADAM, a substance that later we will cover in depth, which are hostile and will attack us with firearms or some blunt object. In addition to the Splicers, there are security cameras and turrets that will make your life impossible if you don't destroy them. In case of cameras, you will need to hack them to avoid problems. Regarding this, hacking is one of the weakest characteristics, I could even say that it is the worst of the game, since it consists of making a mini-game of pipes, where there is an inlet nozzle which must be joined with several pieces to Getting to the goal is simply like making a puzzle by putting pieces together and making them fit together. Unfortunately this can become repetitive and tiring, since you will do the same thing over and over again, even if it is random, it does not stop becoming a nuisance. While we are touring sectors of the city we will be able to loot various furniture and surroundings, where we will have things like money, food and first aid kits to be able to heal you, ammunition for your weapons, liquor and cigarettes, which are distributed in various places on the map or in the area you are. exploring. It is advisable to explore all the hidden corners and places to get more things that will be useful on your trip. If you kill your enemies you can also loot them and get what you need. Even on the way we can find diaries in audio form, which are narrated by the citizens of Rapture and important characters in the plot, where they tell us about various things that happened before and after various events in the city and various characters. . You can also obtain EVE, a genetic substance that when occupying the plasmids is lowered until you have to recharge yourself. These plasmids are genetic enhancements created through the ADAM that you will occupy during your adventure in Rapture and they exist of many types, lagnos generate powers of electricity, incineration, telekinesis, ability to summon insects, etc. Some you will find them in an obvious way and others will be hidden. There are also the tonics, which are qualities that give advantages to the character and that can be used during your journey. They are separated into Physics and Genetics and enhance some of Jack's characteristics, but passively. There will be a time when you will have so many plasmids and tonics that many you will not use. If you are in this situation you can go to a Genetic Bank to place or remove what you need. If you have a shortage of bullets or health, you can use the money that you find thrown in the city to buy medicine kits, EVE and ammunition in various centers that you find on your route. Now, if we talk about the weapons that you can use, it is quite varied. At first you start with a wrench and then have a pistol, machine gun, shotgun, grenade launcher, crossbow, a camera for certain missions and a chemical launcher that shoots electric gel and liquid nitrogen. This arsenal can be upgraded in upgrade terminals, but unlike ammo and medical centers, you can only upgrade one weapon. If you want to improve another weapon or the same one, you will have to access another level to do it. There is only one upgrade terminal per level and they are heavily hidden. The first is easy to find, but to find the others you will have to explore each area very well. One of the most important characteristics of this game is ADAM, as mentioned before, it is a genetic substance that the Splicers want the most. The ADAM is collected by modified girls called Little Sisters who roam in Rapture who are accompanied by the Big Daddys, armored colossi that protect the little ones from any threat. They are capable of murdering whoever dares to disturb them and facing them is difficult because they are tough and it takes time to defeat them, but in doing so the Little Sisters are left alone and this is where the karma system of the game that affects the ending is covered. When the little girl is helpless, you have two options: free her or harvest her. If you do the first one, the Little Sisters will stop being a monster and will be human again, but the ADAM that you will obtain will be very little, on the other hand if you harvest them you will have more ADAM and you will obtain the slug from which this substance comes. Now how does it affect the karma system and the ending? Well, if you free all the girls you will have the good ending and you will get a gift, which can be ammunition, first aid kits, money or even tonics, but if you do the opposite you will get the bad ending. But what does ADAM work for in the game? This substance is the second currency of the game, which serves to improve characteristics of our character. This can be done in the Gatherer Gardens where you can raise the life, the EVE, buy runes for the plasmids and tonics, even buy them or get the same but of a higher level. In general, that would be BioShock. If we refer to the gameplay, which despite not being quite solid in various aspects such as hacking or combat, is quite good and you might like it. Perhaps because they are from the same people responsible for System Shock 2, you may not like the gameplay, but it is not disposable either, it is just different. In the visual and sound aspect it is quite competent and complies with being able to transport you in the city of Rapture from the moment you enter the city. As for the graphic section, it is quite acceptable, especially the remastered version, which is the one that was tested for this review that has lighting improvements and some details. Regarding the performance of the game. It complies without problems, the version of the game was the PC version and runs at 60 stable frames, and with respect to bugs or crashes, since none have been seen, the whole experience was without any problem on the part of the game. BioShock is one of those titles that can demonstrate why some video games can be art, it is a jewel that you cannot miss. You can get it for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but I recommend the PC version that is cheaper than the console versions.
