The Premier League are set to begin regular meetings with the government and senior medical directors about restarting top flight football as soon as possible.

According to the BBC, the Premier League are “quickening the pace” and intend to resume the league season where it left off at some stage during the coming weeks.Prime minister Boris Johnson is said to have been briefed on the meetings and chief medical officer Sir Chris Whitty will allow his staff to be involved in the weekly meetings But a return to action will depend on an increase in testing for those involved in the restart and strict social distancing measures between players.

The Times have this morning reported that the Premier League is working with a host of other sports to help bring the action back to our living rooms. The plan, thrashed out over a number of meetings, will see games staged behind closed doors in a small number of ‘approved’ stadiums.

The Premier League revealed their plan to shareholders last week, say the Times, with June 8 labelled as the ideal return date. That starting date would see the campaign completed on July 27, allowing until late August to start the new season. The meetings are being seen as the first steps towards bringing the Premier League back into our living rooms as soon as possible.
