The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced the abandonment of the United States of the nuclear agreement with Iran. The announcement comes after several countries tried to persuade the president not to withdraw from the historic treaty.

Trump has argued his decision stating that, even if Tehran complies with the provisions of the treaty, the Persian country can develop nuclear weapons in a short time. In addition, the president indicated that the agreement has failed in its objective of protecting the US and its allies from the "madness" of an Iranian nuclear bomb, since it has allowed Iran to continue enriching uranium.

According to the US president, the 2015 nuclear agreement is a "horrible and unilateral deal that has not brought peace and never will. No action taken by the Iranian regime has been more dangerous than its intention to acquire nuclear weapons and the means to carry them to their objectives, "said Trump.

During his statement, the president also announced the establishment of new sanctions against the Islamic Republic. "The Iranian regime is the main sponsoring state of terror," the president added.

Named the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (JCPOA), the agreement was signed by Iran and the 5 + 1 Group (United Kingdom, China, France, Russia, USA and Germany) in 2015, and sti[CENSORED]ted the lifting of a series of sanctions against the Islamic Republic in exchange for its commitment not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons
