Jovenel Moise wins the presidency of Haiti

Haitian presidential candidate Tet Kale (PHTK) Jovenel Moise won 55.67 percent of the vote in Haiti's presidential election on November 20, according to preliminary results released today by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) .

The candidate of the Alternative League for Progress and Haitian Emancipation (Lapeh), Jude Celestin, came second with 19.52% of the vote, while Moise Jean-Charles, from the Dessalines Children's Platform, won 11.04%, and Marysse se Narcisse, from the Lavalas Family party, 8.99%.

If these preliminary results are confirmed, a second round will not be necessary for next January, as Jovenel Moise obtained more than 50% plus one of the votes necessary to win in the first round.

Haiti hosted last November 20 elections that went smoothly and took place amid the emergency caused by Hurricane Matthew last month and after a year of political crisis following the cancellation of the October 2015 elections For alleged irregularities.

In the annulled presidential elections of October 25, 2015, Jovenel Moise obtained a 32.81% of the votes, whereas Jude Celestin obtained 25,27% of the votes.

Hours before the dissemination of these results, interim President Jocelerme Privert urged all political actors to abide by "the electoral decree" and to use "legal channels" to appeal the results "if not satisfied" with them.

Privert recalled that "the country is in crisis", so that "we need stability to improve the conditions of the most vulnerable."

After inviting all members of the government to remain vigilant to maintain order in the street after the results are released, Privert expressed confidence that the Haitian people will be able to show their "political maturity so that there is Transfer of power in peace that guarantees stability ".

Last week two candidates for the Haitian presidency denounced, in letters to the CEP, the existence of alleged irregularities in the computer center.

The complaint was made by Jude Celestin and Maryse Narcisse.

The international community has highlighted the climate in which the election day took place.

At the election were presented 27 presidential candidates and were also elected deputies and senators.
