The largest aircraft in the world is finally flying.

The giant airship Airlander 10 lasted 20 minutes in the air on Wednesday, after months of preparations for the flight and years of fundraising. The aircraft landed safely in Cardington Airfield north of London.

Part dirigible, part helicopter and part airplane, the aircraft is 91 meters longer than 15 aircraft in the world's largest passenger meters, reported CNN

The first flight of the aircraft was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was postponed due to a technical problem.

The Airlander, manufactured by the British company Hybrid Air Vehicles, has four engines and has no internal structure. It keeps its shape thanks to the pressure of 38,000 cubic meters of helium inside his helmet, made of ultra-light carbon fiber.

Along with the aerodynamic figure of his helmet, helium gas lighter than air generates lift. The odd shape of the aircraft has led many observers describe as a "flying back".

The aircraft was originally designed for the surveillance of the US Army. But the project was put ashore in 2013 by cuts in defense spending.

The British company Hybrid Air Vehicles collected more than 3.4 million pounds (4.4 million dollars) through two campaigns to finance the project. He also received financial aid from the European Union and the UK government.

The Airlander has a footprint of coal significantly lower than other forms of transport and equipment behind the aircraft expected to be used in a wide range of commercial work.

According to the creators this device may carry equipment or other charges, conduct search and rescue operations or do jobs commercial or military research.

The Airlander may be in the air for five days if it is manned and more than two weeks if it is empty. It can carry more than 10 tons of cargo at a maximum speed of 144 kilometers per hour.

This aircraft does not need a runway to take off, which means it can be operated from the ground, snow, ice, desert or even water.
