Police did not disclose the race of the suspect or the officer involved in the shooting, which took place on Saturday in Sherman Park. The violence comes as anger over the deaths of black men and women at the hands of police in the country continues unabated, Reuters reported. A statement from the Milwaukee Police Department did not identify the suspect, but said he was 23, a history of arrests and carrying a stolen gun with ammunition when officers stopped their vehicle for a "suspicious activity" unspecified. The statement did not say whether the suspect fired or pointed his gun at the officers. Others suspect who fled the vehicle was quickly put in custody. The officer who shot the suspect has been assigned to administrative pending an investigation by the prosecutor's office tasks Milwaukee County, police said. After the shooting, police said some residents of Sherman Park took to the streets and at night, some initially peaceful assembly turned violent. The crowd fired shots, broke windows of at least two police cars and burned another, police said. One officer was wounded in the head with a brick.
