Wizard ;x Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Imagine an aircraft that can receive power from your outlet, that can take off from your garden, and with electric motors so quiet that do not disturb your neighbors. That is the vision behind lilium, a electric aircraft that your computer ultralight design German expects to put up for sale in 2018. The aircraft of two seats, in the shape of an egg, you can ascend and descend vertically as a helicopter, so that you can use in heliports. Requires a flat area of 15 meters by 15 meters for takeoff and landing. Is in prototype stage, but its engineers say it could reach up to 400 kilometers per hour and travel up to 500 kilometers of distance. Lilium is a venture founded by four graduates from the University of Munich: Daniel Wiegand, Patrick Nathan, Sebastian Born and Matthias Meier. The company is part of a business incubator of the European Space Agency. In a statement from the agency, Weigand emphasized on the environmental benefits and practical of the concept. "Our goal is to develop an aircraft for daily use. We seek a plane that you do not need the complex infrastructure and face of an airport. To reduce the noise and pollution, we are using electric motors, so that it can be used in urban areas". Their engines that make it more quiet than helicopters or traditional private aircraft and its compact size means that you do not need the services of an airport for taking off or landing. The battery, meanwhile, can be loaded from the outlet of the house. The plane, as well as with the fact that it is in its conceptual state, is not exempt from drawbacks. Is designed only for travel in good weather conditions in air spaces not congested and only during the day. So forget about landing in front of your favorite nightclub at night. In fact, the plane in a principle used airfields to the landings and take-offs, although the agency says that the goal is to eventually take off vertically of any place, including the rear garden. The plane of two seats falls in the category of sports planes lightweight, so a pilot license only requires 20 hours of training. There is still no price but the agency says it will be cheaper to buy it and keep it that the planes of similar size that are already on the market. Until now, has been tested the concept with prototypes of 24 kilos of weight. At the end of 2016 it is expected a test of a prototype unmanned actual size.
