  1. The legend of Aarbron is told once more as you embark upon a ferocious action adventure, seeking to dethrone the evil lord Maletoth, in the visually stunning world of Shadow of the Beast. For those of you who aren’t in the know, Shadow of the Beast is a PS4 reinvention of the original Amiga game released back in 1989. It was a game known for its particularly impressive graphics, especially its ability to show up to twelve levels of parallax scrolling backdrops behind its side-scrolling platforming. The original game spawned two sequels: Shadow of the Beast 2 in 1990 and Shadow of the Beast 3 in 1992. But after that the series disappeared. Now, though, it’s making a comeback courtesy of developer Heavy Spectrum Entertainment Labs, headed up by über-passionate original Shadow of the Beast fan Matt Birch – who you may remember from his rather emotional presentation back at GamesCom 2013. Nearly two years after that initial announcement, I’ve had the chance to have a play around with a pre-alpha build of Shadow of the Beast for PS4 at a special PlayStation Digital Gaming Showcase event.
