  2. "For us to end the dig with these utterly astounding finds is beyond exciting," lead archaeologist Rachel Wood said in a statement. "The statues are exceptionally well preserved, and you really get an impression of the people they depict — literally looking into the faces of the past is a unique experience." Wood said the discovery has many of them curious as to what else might be under England's churches. "This has truly been a once-in-a-lifetime site," Wood said, "and we are all looking forward to hearing what more the specialists can tell us about these incredible statues and the history of the site before the construction of the Norman church."Along with the busts, archaeologists dug up large roof tiles, painted wall plaster, Roman creation urns, and an "incredibly well preserved" hexagonal glass Roman jug, which had several large pieces still intact. It is believed the jug was in the ground for over 1,000 years.

The body of 21-year-old Agnes Wanjiru was found at the Lions Court Hotel in the town of Nanyuki, close to the Batuk (British Army Training Unit Kenya) camp, two months after she disappeared in March 2012.Sky News reported exclusively on her death at the time, with sources claiming they had seen Ms Wanjiru arriving at the hotel with British soldiers on 31 March that year. According to a report by the The Sunday Times, a soldier accused of the murder has been named by his comrades after he allegedly confessed to the killing. In a statement, General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith wrote: "I am sure you are all as appalled as I am at the recent allegations surrounding the murder of Agnes Wanjiru in Nanyuki, Kenya, in 2012." Advertisement He added: "I want you to know I am determined we support the appropriate authorities to establish the facts of the issue as quickly as possible." The paper said another soldier reported the killing to senior officers at the time, but no action was taken.

  8. An update to the Cyberpunk 2077 development roadmap has revealed that all "updates, improvements, and free DLCs" for Cyberpunk 2077 have now been pushed into 2022. The fixes and new content had previously been set to arrive before the end of 2021. Specific reasons for the change aren't provided, but it comes on the heels of a tweet from CD Projekt last week saying that planned next-gen updates for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that were expected to be out before the end of the year have also been pushed into 2022.The most recent Cyberpunk update came in September and brought back wet roads; the much bigger 1.3 update in August included the first batch of free content, but its tiny size did not make a very good impression. Getting the game to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X is no doubt the studio's priority because that's where it's going to generate more revenues: Cyberpunk 2077 saw a serious bump in sales when it returned to the PlayStation Store earlier this year despite a warning (that's still present) on the store page that "users continue to experience performance issues with this game." Fixes and free content, on the other hand, aren't going to have as significant an impact on the bottom line.
  9. Digital junk piles up too quickly. Look no further than your phone and all those blurry photos and old screenshots in your gallery. What you don't see are the invasive tracking cookies saved in your smartphone. Tap or click for a short privacy how-to everyone should read. Clutter on your computer can be even tougher to wrangle. Start with your Recycle Bin on a PC or Trash Can on a Mac. You need to manually empty that every so often. Tap or click for the files and folders you should also toss for good right now. Cleaning up your computer doesn't take a ton of time. But you have to do it the right, smart way. I can help. 1. Get sensitive files off your desktop How many documents are stored on your computer that you really wouldn’t want someone else to get their hands on? I know people who have an Excel spreadsheet loaded with their passwords stored in the open on the desktop.Maybe you keep financial records nicely organized or have a folder with all your essential medical documents. Beyond the privacy risk, think about what a pain it would be when your computer finally bites the dust. You don’t want to end up in a pinch because you never saved those files someplace safer. My recommendation: Back up anything you don’t want to lose to the cloud. Whatever option you go with, adhere to what tech pros call the 3-2-1 rule. Keep three copies of your important files: two on different storage media and one preserved in an off-site location. (Yes, the cloud counts.)If you do insist on saving private documents locally, at least give a snoop a more challenging time by naming the folder something off base like "Vacation Photos." Be sure your computer automatically locks when you're away and requires a password on startup tooPrograms take up a decent amount of space, so regularly clear out anything you’re not using. Beyond that, outdated apps could put you at risk. By keeping old programs on your computer, you’re potentially leaving a door wide open for cybercriminals to slip in. Here’s how to find space-consuming apps and uninstall them: On a Windows PC: • Click the Start button and look for the app or program. Press and hold (or right-click) the app and select Uninstall. On a Mac: • In the top left of your screen, click the Apple icon, then click About This Mac. • Select the Storage option in the middle of the pop-up box. • On the right-hand side, select Manage. You’ll see everything taking up space – and how much space it’s consuming. You can also review Apple’s recommendation for making space. • On the right, click Applications. Click on a program you no longer want and select Delete in the bottom right-hand corner, then confirm. RELATED: Upgrading to a new computer any time soon? Here are three options to delete files and totally erase your hard drive.
  10. Around the mahogany tables of corporate boardrooms and the plywood workbenches of garage-based startups, one topic has threatened to monopolize business discussions for years: digital transformation. The first question in those discussions is often some form of “what is digital transformation?” The short answer is “everything.” After all, what company isn’t using digital tools to improve traditional workflows or capitalize on new business models made possible by our ever-evolving digital economy? The slightly longer answer is this: Digital transformation is the use of computers, software, and data to better understand what customers want, and then provide those experiences. It’s as simple—and as complicated—as that. It’s simple because it’s business as usual: Invest in new technologies to build a better product. It’s complicated because business as usual is disrupted across industries by a deluge of valuable data that promises personalized medicine, net-zero carbon emission airlines, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, the industrial internet of things (IIoT), and more—if that data can be effectively applied. Mining, understanding, and applying data to meet evolving customer needs is the most significant digital transformation challenge faced by businesses in every sector. To meet that challenge, businesses are trying to make sense of the information they are collecting to better inform decisions as they compete to get the best products to market faster.Simulation helps businesses meet those goals by enabling them to accurately predict and visualize what will happen in a given environment—in an automobile, an industrial plant, or even a person—under a certain set of circumstances. A first-tier original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplier for the automotive industry, thyssenkrupp Presta AG, reached a targeted 50% weight-reduction goal. The company achieved this by replacing metal housing for a servo-assisted steering system with an injection-molded housing made of short-fiber reinforced glass-fiber composite. Using simulation solutions gave thyssenkrupp Presta confidence in the plastic housing design before its actual manufacturing. The adoption of an innovative and lightweight plastic housing for its steering system supports both the ecological and the economic goals of the company. Digital twins can be connected to IIoT platforms, enabling remote predictive maintenance of physical equipment to extend digital transformation initiatives to the edge of the enterprise. ENGIE, one of the world’s leading suppliers of energy efficiency services, is helping companies transition to carbon-free energy by employing digital-twin simulation solutions. “This real-time technology allows us to observe and predict the behavior of our installation, and thus test strategies for the operation of the equipment by implementing, testing, and validating different scenarios instantly on the digital twin before deployment on the equipment,” said Nicolas Meynet, multiphysics simulation expert at ENGIE Lab CRIGEN. “The customer can better understand, anticipate, and validate the proper functioning of his [or her] installation by virtually testing the changes on the equipment.” What if digital-twin functionality extended to people? Lives could be saved, because medicines, surgical procedures, and treatment regimens would all be based on individual characteristics instead of generalities.Every human body is distinct in its geometry, movements, and behaviors. By creating a patient-specific simulation, we can predict how a proposed treatment plan will work not just in a generalized way, but in some cases also for a specific person,” said Dr. Liesbet Geris, research professor in biomechanics and computational tissue engineering at the Université de Liège and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. “This is a revolutionary concept that has the potential to fundamentally change the way we treat patients in a medical setting.” Geris is a long-time user of simulation in her research, which focuses on bone and cartilage regeneration, computational tissue engineering, and the design of orthopedic implants that can be 3D printed on demand. Accurate predictions and visualization are powerful forces in digital transformation. Simulation allows companies to see how new data affects a design, even if those changes are invisible to the naked eye, such as thermal flows around a printed circuit board, electromagnetic interference from lightning striking an aircraft, or the sun’s reflection off a LiDAR camera lens that hasn’t yet been built. Those visuals are both invaluable for collaboration and for exploring “what if” scenarios that lead to innovative designs. Simulation Speeds System Design and Development Whether using a new, lighter material to design a more fuel-efficient plane, modeling a battery pack in an autonomous vehicle, or designing an integrated circuit in a cell phone, simulation speeds product design and development by minimizing or avoiding the time and expenses associated with old design-build-test cycles that require multiple physical prototypes. As companies realize the enormous benefits of simulating components, they can apply simulation to the subsystems and systems that comprise those components. However, doing so creates large, complex digital models that could take days to solve on a conventional computer workstation. While that is exponentially better than months of building and testing physical prototypes, it can be even faster; Ansys simulation software can take advantage of high-performance computing (HPC) power and cloud computing to speed simulation times. Ansys Cloud provides access to on-demand, cloud-based computing resources, including interactive workstations and HPC clusters, for faster high-fidelity results offering greater performance insight. Ansys has also developed workflows that use reduced-order model (ROM) techniques to drastically reduce simulation runtimes without sacrificing accuracy. ABB engineers rapidly and accurately analyzed the thermal behavior of electric traction motors along their full duty cycles by coupling Ansys Fluent simulation software with Ansys Twin Builder’s dynamic ROM. The ROM gave the ABB team a way to obtain thermal performance results extraordinarily fast, empowering ABB engineers to examine a motor model, select random operational parameters, and quickly demonstrate the behavior of a traction model in response. With a traditional solver, this process would require many hours or even days. Using a dynamic ROM, engineers accomplished this task in a few milliseconds. Companies from every industry have made simulation a key part of their digital transformation efforts. It enables them to optimize product design and development, ensure system components interact seamlessly, and bring innovations to market faster—all without the expense of building and testing multiple prototypes.
  11. Snoop Dogg, who it is always a pleasure to cover, especially when he's having big streaming fails or telling off Bill Gates, has told Rolling Stone that Dr. Dre is working on new music for Grand Theft Auto. Snoop will collaborate on some of these tracks, though it's unclear whether the GTA project in question is for GTA 6, a GTA Online expansion, or something to do with the GTA Trilogy releasing next month. “I do know he’s making great [CENSORED] music," Snoop said when pressed on his close friend's movements. "And some of his music is connected to the GTA game that’s coming out. So I think that that will be the way that his music will be released, through the GTA video game.” The quote above was in response to questions on Detox, Dr. Dre's long in-gestation follow-up to his 2015 album Compton. Given Snoop's wording—"that will be the way that his music will be released"—it's easy to speculate that maybe Detox will launch via GTA Online in the same way other artists have launched albums in Fortnite. Again, pure speculation. Neither Dr. Dre's representatives nor Rockstar itself offered comment to Rolling Stone. The less exciting possibility is that Dr. Dre is just recording contributions to the forthcoming "expanded and enhanced" version of GTA Online, which hits new-gen consoles in early 2022. Or, maybe licensing every song in the original 3D GTA trilogy was impossible, so Rockstar is commissioning whole new tracks. Or maybe Snoop has just confirmed new Dr. Dre tracks will appear in GTA 6. One of those options is more exciting than the others.Shaun is PC Gamer’s Australian editor and news writer. 12. Odds are you don’t need to because there’s no limit in place where you live, but this used to be a big concern with expensive consequences for motorists in New South Wales, Australia. Driving laws are influenced by the cars in a given nation, the folks who drive them and the environment they operate in. While nearly every country bans speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, some enforce seemingly weirder rules written to address specific local problems. That’s how lawmakers around the world ended up needing to take potatoes, headphones and mudflaps into consideration. We’ve sorted through the myths and the legends to find the oddest driving laws in the world:

  15. CEO Mike Flewitt has stepped down from his position and will be leaving the company after almost a decade in charge. Flewitt joined McLaren as chief operating officer in 2012 before being appointed as CEO in July 2013, a position he has held since. A successor to Flewitt has not yet been announced, although a search has already begun for a new CEO.Flewitt's departure comes just weeks after former Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby and former Porsche CEO Michael Macht were appointed as non-executive directors to the McLaren Group (which includes the Automotive, Racing and Technology businesses) board.Macht "will assume responsibility for all technical and operational functions" at McLaren Automotive while a new CEO is recruited. Sales, marketing and PR operations will be overseen by McLaren Group's executive chairman, Paul Walsh. “I feel incredibly proud to have led McLaren Automotive through most of its first, highly successful decade and am privileged to have played a part in the incredible McLaren story," Flewitt said. “This young company’s success is testament to the many passionate and talented people I have had the pleasure of working with and I look forward to seeing that success continue.” Flewitt became a high-level executive at quite an acrimonious time for McLaren, which had just launched its first model, the MP4-12C to mixed reviews. Antony Sheriff had spent almost a decade as managing director establishing the company but was placed on gardening leave at the start of 2013 and ended up suing the company for wrongful dismissal. Flewitt's second role at McLaren was in the newly created CEO position and he soon oversaw the launch of the P1, 570S and the 12C's morphing into the 650S, a car that built on the 12C's undoubted strengths and addressed many of its flaws. He built a range of cars at McLaren that brought annual sales close to 5000 models in 2018 and 2019. The pandemic, though, hit not only the Automotive division but also the entire McLaren Group hard, with some 1200 job losses in a restructuring last May. The company is now gearing up for the launch of its first series-production hybrid model, the Artura, which is the first in the next-generation of McLaren models using electrified technology.
  16. LONDON -- London finally honoured the late Princess Diana Wednesday with a blue plaque at the place she called home in the two years before she married Prince Charles and her life in the goldfish bowl began. For Diana, 60 Coleherne Court, an apartment near London's fashionable King's Road, was the start of a new adventure. Settling in the capital on reaching her 18th birthday, Diana shared the apartment with a number of friends from 1979 to 1981. It was there that she first started to court Charles. One of her roommates then, Virginia Clarke, helped unveil the English Heritage plaque during Wednesday's ceremony."Those were happy days for all of us and the flat was always full of laughter," she said. "Diana went off to become so much to so many. It's wonderful that her legacy will be remembered in this way." According to Andrew Morton's 1992 best-selling book "Diana, In Her Own Words," Diana described her years at the property as "the happiest time" of her life. Diana, who died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, is the highest profile former member of the monarchy to be bestowed the honor. She was nominated by the London Assembly in 2019 after the body ran a campaign asking Londoners to suggest women worthy of a blue plaque. "Diana had, and still has, a very special place in the hearts of Londoners and we are thrilled to see her blue plaque formally placed as a monument to her work for others," said Andrew Boff, chairman of the London Assembly. The honor comes in the year when she would have celebrated her 60th birthday. "Diana was one of the world's most famous women and she used her fame and influence to raise awareness of issues such as homelessness and landmines," said Anna Eavis, the curatorial director at English Heritage. "It is fitting that our blue plaque remembers her at this place where her life in the public eye first began," she added. The renowned London blue plaque program began more than 150 years ago. The plaques commemorate people who achieved something worthwhile in their lives and who made London their home at some point. There are more than 900 official plaques in the capital.
  17. Lance Corporal Robert Cook will receive full military honours after his identity was confirmed by experts, known as the War Detectives. He was among tens of thousands of soldiers who lost their lives during intensive fighting around the town of Ypres, dying on 2 May 1915 aged 38. Born in Bishop Wilton in 1876 in the East Riding of Yorkshire, he was one of seven children and served with the 2nd Battalion The Essex Regiment. He had also served in the Boer War in South Africa. He will be buried at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's New Irish Farm Cemetery near Ypres on Wednesday afternoon. L/Cpl Cook's great-nephew and great-niece are set to attend the service on behalf of his surviving family. Also present will be members of the modern equivalent of his regiment - members of the C "Essex" Company of 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment. His body, like so many others, had been missing for a century and his name was among 54,000 inscribed on the Menin Gate memorial to the missing. Between 2014 and 2015, the remains of 24 soldiers were found during construction work, near what is believed to have been a Regimental Aid Post during the war.His was found with a medal ribbon bar, shoulder ties and the cap badge of The Essex Regiment. All but one of the soldiers have been buried following investigations by the Ministry of Defence's Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre (JCCC). To this day, tens of thousands of those who fell in Flanders fields, including during the five battles of Ypres, have never been found.
  18. 1. The Supreme Court again refused to block Texas’ abortion law, but agreed to fast-track suits challenging it. Arguments are set for Nov. 1. The court will consider two appeals: one from the Justice Department and one from abortion providers in Texas. The arguments will be limited to the procedural question of whether the Texas law is subject to review in federal court given its novel structure, which was designed to evade judicial challenges. The Texas law, which makes no exceptions for pregnancies resulting from incest or rape, deputizes private individuals to sue anyone who performs an abortion or “aids and abets” one. The court turned down a request from officials in Texas to decide whether to entirely overturn the right to abortion established in 1973, in Roe v. Wade. That question is already before the court in a case challenging a Mississippi law that bans most abortions after 15 weeks. Arguments in that case are set for Dec. 1.
  19. Since their commercialization in 1991, lithium-ion batteries have received worldwide success. However, this cannot hide their intrinsic limitations in terms of safety, performance, and form factor. Most current lithium-ion technologies employ liquid electrolytes, with lithium salts such as LiPF6, LiBF4, or LiClO4 in an organic solvent. However, the solid electrolyte interface, which is caused as a result of the decomposition of the electrolyte at the negative electrode, limits the effective conductance. Furthermore, liquid electrolytes need membranes to separate the cathode and anode, as well as an impermeable casing to avoid leakage. Therefore, the size and design freedom for these batteries are constrained. In addition, liquid electrolytes have safety and health issues as they use flammable and corrosive liquids. Samsung's Firegate has particularly highlighted the risks that even large companies incur when flammable liquid electrolytes are used, as well as the dozens of electric vehicle fire accidents caused by battery combustion. Current high-end lithium-ion batteries can reach an energy density of over 700 Wh/L at cell level, with a maximum driving range of about 500 Km for electric vehicles. The high-nickel-cathode materials being improved may further push the energy density but the characteristics of the active materials may draw a threshold. Solid-state batteries can make a difference Solid-state batteries replace organic liquid electrolytes with solid-state counterparts, enabling safer, long-lasting batteries. In addition, solid-state electrolytes can be compatible with high voltage-cathode materials and high-capacity lithium metal anode. It is possible to push the energy density beyond 1,000 Wh/L. Better safety means less safety monitoring electronics in the battery modules/packs. Therefore, even the initial generations of solid-state batteries may have similar or even less energy density than conventional lithium-ion batteries. The energy available in the battery pack can be comparable or even higher than the latter. With the larger electrochemical window that the solid electrolytes can provide, high voltage cathode materials can be used. In addition, high-energy-density lithium metal anode can further push the energy density beyond 1,000 Wh/L. These features can further make the solid-state battery a game-changer. Within solid-state batteries, there are various technology approaches. IDTechEx has identified solid-state battery technologies including solid polymer electrolyte, as well as other 8 inorganic electrolyte types such as LISICON-like, argyrodites, garnet, NASICON-like, Perovskite, LiPON, Li-Hydride, and Li-Halide. In general, oxide, sulfide, and polymer systems have become po[CENSORED]r options in next-generation development. Sulfide electrolytes have advantages of high ionic conductivity, even better than liquid electrolytes, low processing temperature, wide electrochemical stability window, etc. Many features make them appealing, being considered by many as the ultimate option. However, the difficulty of manufacturing and the toxic by-product hydrogen sulfide generated in the process make the commercialization relatively slow. Polymer systems are easy to fabricate, and they are closest to commercialization, while the relatively high operating temperature, low anti-oxide potential, and worse stability indicate challenges. Oxide systems are stable and safe, while the higher interface resistance and high processing temperature show some difficulties in general. The race between polymer, oxide, and sulfide systems is unclear so far and it is common to see battery companies trying multiple approaches. Complex technology approaches make the decision difficult. What is next? There have been numerous press releases on the progress of solid-state batteries and electric vehicle prototypes equipped with solid-state batteries. It seems the focus on solid-state batteries will mainly be battery cells. However, this will only be part of the future focus. Another important trend is the cell to pack (CTP) approach. CTP is not a new concept and it can be found in designs based on lithium-ion batteries already, such as BYD's blade battery and CATL's CTP designs. The CTP concept will become more important due to the better safety of solid-state battery cells. Better battery safety means a more flexible pack design and fewer electronics/components used in the battery module/packs. For instance, the bipolar design enables higher energy density. It is possible that initial generations of solid-state batteries may not equip with high-voltage, high-capacity cathode, and lithium metal anode, thus leading to energy densities less than commercial lithium-ion batteries. It is also expected that the initial costs of solid-state battery cells are higher than lithium-ion counterparts. However, with higher energy density at pack level with flexible design and fewer materials/components used, it is possible that solid-state battery packs can be comparable to or even better than lithium-ion batteries. 20. Bungie is coming down on players who've been exploiting a major game-breaking bug in Destiny 2, but the current solution may be pulling legitimate players into the crossfire too. The min/max glitch has quietly been on Bungie's radar for a few months, but a video showing how to replicate the bug has thrown the exploit out in the open. Popping the game into windowed mode and holding down the minimise window button for five seconds before using certain super abilities causes the game to have a bit of a moment, tanking framerate and dropping a ton of Orbs of Power—essentially allowing for a constant stream of supers. It's a huge issue for PvP in particular, with the glitch theoretically letting teams who use steamroll their opponents.Senior community manager dmg04 says that the development team has been "silently working" on a fix for a while now, but called it "an incredibly deep and difficult to fix bug." A patch is currently penned in for December, but Bungie is starting to take action against those exploiting the issue.Significant dips in framerate will now force Rutabaga errors, bumping you out of whatever you're doing. Dmg04 also warned that erroring out a handful of times "can be met with escalating restrictions," adding "aside from recommending you don't negatively impact the experience of others by reproducing this issue, I also recommend not ruining your own."The main issue with the current solution is that it can cause issues for those who suffer from regular framerate hitches and even people who regularly Alt+Tab out of the game to be slapped with a PvP timeout. Dmg04 said it shouldn't result in a full account ban though, and players who are being wrongfully errored out can respond to a Destiny help thread. While the current band-aid may come with some frustrating caveats, it beats getting unfairly crapped on during matches.A fresh writer in the industry, Mollie has been taken under PC Gamer's RGB-laden wing, making sure she doesn't get up to too much mischief on the site. 21. will not offer an estate version of the new Fabia, despite earlier confirmations from high-ranking company executives that it was inbound. As the Czech brand ramps up its move towards an electrified model range, it has decided to pull the plug on development of the wagon, which was due to arrive in 2023 and be produced at Skoda’s factory in Mladá Boleslav. The decision was made in line with the firm’s commitment to Skoda's Next Level strategy, which includes the launch of three EVs by 2030.The outgoing Fabia Estate has been essentially unrivalled in the UK for the last two years; the closely related Seat Ibiza ST was pulled from sale in 2017 and Dacia hasn't directly replaced the similarly sized and priced Logan MCV. Skoda confirmed to Autocar that the model would be removed from the Fabia range in an effort to meet emissions targets set by the EU. It said: “The European Commission’s recent decision to reduce the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 is accelerating the transformation from the internal combustion engine to the e-car [EV]. “However, this also means we will be discontinuing some ICE products more quickly – particularly against the backdrop of increasingly stringent emissions legislation in Europe (Euro 7), compliance with which is associated with very high costs. “Following this decision, there will be no successor to the Fabia Estate. Nevertheless, our Czech plants will be working to full capacity. The demand for our vehicles is already exceeding our production capacities, and we're responding to the accelerated transformation to e-mobility by introducing additional e-vehicles.” Skoda CEO Thomas Schäfer previously said the variant would return in a post on his LinkedIn profile, before Volkswagen Group chairman Herbert Diess confirmed a planned 2023 launch date. “We will again have a combi [estate] version,” Schäfer said last December. “This is very important to us, because it underlines our commitment to offering affordable, practical mobility in the entry-level segments.” Czech sources had suggested the Fabia would exit production back in 2017, but the firm later confirmed the next-generation model would arrive by the end of 2022. The Fabia Estate accounts for 34% of the outgoing Fabia's total sales and can still be configured on Skoda's UK website, with prices starting from £18,205.

  23. While some Friends stars tried to shake off their former characters and move on with their careers after the series ended in 2004, Tyler always seemed relaxed about being known as Gunther. The waiter and manager at coffee house Central Perk gradually became a fan favourite over the sitcom's 10-year run. And long after the show ended, Tyler kept close ties to the Friends brand. He would speak to the press every time the Friends set went on tour around the world. He would pose for selfies and sign autographs when stopped by fans of the show. "Occasionally, I'll still get recognised as Gunther, which is OK with me," he said in 2018. As an actor, Tyler didn't have a huge number of other film and TV credits to his name. But he did appear alongside Matt LeBlanc once again in the BBC comedy Episodes in 2012, as part of a storyline where the Joey actor attempted (and largely failed) to get the other stars of Friends back together. After the six main stars, Gunther was the character with the most appearances in Friends, cropping up in 185 episodes - more than Janice, Carol, Susan, Phoebe's husband Mike, and Ross and Monica's parents Jack and Judy put together.Having said that, he didn't necessarily speak in every episode he appeared in. Tyler often wasn't even credited because Gunther was simply seen in the background, behind the bar, particularly in the early years. He initially got the job on Friends because he knew how to work a coffee machine. But he was gradually given more and more material over the years, delivering killer one-liners in his character's droll manner. To remember the actor and the part he played, here are some of Gunther's best moments:
  24. It looked like a calculator app. But it was actually spyware recording my every keystroke — the type of data that would give a stalker unfettered access to my private life. That’s what I concluded after downloading the free app Flash Keylogger onto an Android smartphone this week. The app described itself as a tool to monitor the online activities of family members by logging what they type. Once it was installed from Google’s official app store, its icon could be changed to that of a calculator or calendar app. In my tests, the app documented all of my typing, including web searches, text messages and emails. Flash Keylogger is part of a rapidly expanding group of apps known as “stalkerware.” While these apps numbered in the hundreds a few years ago, they have since grown into the thousands. They are widely available on Google’s Play Store and to a lesser degree on Apple’s App Store, often with innocuous names like MobileTool, Agent and Cerberus. And they have become such a tool for digital domestic abuse that Apple and Google have started in the last year acknowledging that the apps are an issue. From last September to May, the number of devices infected with stalkerware jumped 63 percent, according to a study by the security firm NortonLifeLock. This month, the Federal Trade Commission said it had barred one app maker, Support King, from offering SpyFone, a piece of stalkerware that gains access to a victim’s location, photos and messages. It was the first ban of its kind. It’s extremely invasive, it’s a very big deal and it’s linked to some of the worst abuse I’ve seen in intimate partner abuse,” Eva Galperin, a cybersecurity director at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the digital rights organization, said of the apps. Stalkerware is a thorny issue because it lives in a gray area. There are legitimate uses for surveillance apps, like parental control software that monitors children online to protect them from predators. But this technology becomes stalkerware when it’s stealthily installed on a partner’s phone to spy on him or her without consent. Such apps are more pervasive on phones running Android, researchers said, because the more open nature of Google’s software system gives the programs deeper access to device data and lets people install whatever apps they want on their phones. Yet new stalking software targeting iPhones has also emerged.Google said it banned apps that violated its policies, including the Flash Keylogger app after I contacted Google about it. An Apple spokesman referred me to a safety guide that it published last year in response to the threat of these apps. He added that the new stalkerware was not a vulnerability in the iPhone that could be fixed with technology if an abuser had access to a person’s device and passcode.
