The League Cup decided its first finalist in San Nicolás. Platense won a tight 6-5 penalty shootout against Godoy Cruz to advance to the final of the tournament, where they will face Rosario Central. However, the refereeing of Leandro Rey Hilfer and the VAR had a controversy in the middle of the shootout that sealed Tomba's fate.

After equaling 1-1 in the 90 minutes, both teams maintained that parity in shots from twelve steps. A total of 20 executions were recorded with the goalkeepers, Ramiro Macagno and Diego Ruso Rodríguez, as the main figures, until Raúl Lozano's last shot to catapult Calamar towards the final.

Macagno's save on Federico Rasmussen in Godoy Cruz's tenth turn was subject to review due to a possible overtaking by the Platense goalkeeper. The images show his previous steps before the shot, which appear to have him outside the lime line.

However, the only camera shown prevents detecting whether he has a part of his feet in the allowed area. Furthermore, the official transmission also did not show the perspective from behind the goal, which could have been used for validation by Fernando Echenique (VAR) and Sebastián Martínez (AVAR).

The regulations are clear in this sense: “At the moment of hitting, the goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot in direct contact with the goal line, on it or behind it.” After the final decision and Lozano's conversion, Ramiro Macagno closed a night of glory with four penalties saved against Enzo Larrosa, Roberto Fernández, Thomas Galdames and Rasmussen himself.

In addition, he guessed the goal of Tadeo Allende's attempt, but that shot went wide.

After the match, the Platense goalkeeper expressed his feelings: “The truth is that I saved, we made mistakes, I saved and I hoped that they would never get the opportunity to define them. Luckily it worked out for us.”

Next, he referred to the move to the final: “I think it's fair, all year we fought in the bottom table. When the year started we wanted to save ourselves from relegation and once we accomplished that, we got into the reduced zone. Today the objective is different.” And he closed: “We should never consider this team dead, we have a wonderful group, human quality ten points. We have a great time every day and now we can only dream.”

It should be remembered that the 26-year-old goalkeeper had also had his moment of stardom to advance to the semifinals of the tournament after deflecting two penalties from Fernando Tobio and Fernando Torrent against Huracán.

On the night of the goalkeepers, Diego Rodríguez was the figure of Godoy Cruz, but his covers were not enough for Leonel Picco, Luciano Ferreyra and Jerónimo Cacciabue to take the Cuyo team to the final of the League Cup. The fourth mistake of the winner, who went over the crossbar, belonged to Ciro Rius.

Now, Platense awaits a rival, is excited about being champion and dreams of playing in the 2024 Copa Libertadores. The revelation of the League Cup will be present in the definition of the domestic competition, which would be next December 16 with a time and venue to be confirmed. .
