Chinese uber-estate uses quad motors for monstrous power and tank turn capability. Eat your heart out M3 Touring

Zeekr has certainly been busy since it was formed in 2021. It has already unveiled the 001 estate, the X crossover and the 009 minivan, and now the Geely-owned EV sub-brand wants to get in on the performance estate market.

It’ll do so with this - the 001 FR. And it clearly has the performance base covered. Heck, its four silicon carbide electric motors (one for each wheel) pump out a frankly terrifying 1,265bhp which results in a 0-62mph time of 2.07 seconds with the aid of an American style one-foot rollout. For reference, the tri-motor Tesla Model S Plaid claims 0-60mph in 1.99 seconds with the same rollout.

Zeekr actually refers to the 001 as a shooting brake, but it’s clearly an estate and could rival the Audi RS6 if it ever made it out of its native China. Unfortunately that looks unlikely, despite the fact that standard 001 deliveries should start in Europe next month.

The 001 FR uses a 100kWh battery pack and an 800V architecture that means a 10 to 80 per cent charge takes just 15 minutes. There are Brembo brakes to stop the thing and carbon fibre bodywork to both reduce weight and add downforce. And because each motor is individually controlled with fancy torque vectoring software, it can even do tank turns.
