President Gustavo Petro told his counterpart from El Salvador that the experience in the Colombian capital "is due in the first place to Mayor Mockus."

 

The discussion between presidents Gustavo Petro and Nayib Bukele now focused on reducing homicides. Both heads of state have exchanged trills in which they question the violent deaths in Colombia and El Salvador.

Nayib Bukele responded to the criticisms made by Petro: "The results weigh more than rhetoric"
The last to respond during the night of this Wednesday, March 1, 2023, was Gustavo Petro, who told Nayib Bukele that the decrease in homicides in Bogotá deserves to be the subject of international analysis.
“For your knowledge I am sending you this information. It seems to me that the Bogotá experience, which is due in the first place to Mayor Mockus, is well worth studying internationally”, Gustavo Petro trilled.

 

The exchange of trills between the two
This situation arose when the Colombian head of state criticized the opening of the mega-prison in the Central American country.

“You can see the terrible photos on the networks, I cannot get into other countries, of the concentration camp in El Salvador, full of young people, thousands and thousands, imprisoned, which give one the chills. I think there are people who undoubtedly like that, seeing youth in prison. They believe that this is security and po[CENSORED]rity soars. We also live it in Colombia”, affirmed Gustavo Petro.

Hours later, Nayib Bukele responded to that comment: "Mr. Gustavo Petro, the results outweigh the rhetoric." In addition to this simple phrase, he wrote: "I wish that Colombia could actually lower the homicide rates, as we Salvadorans have."
