[Curiosities] Lukaku To Miss Belgium’s World Cup Games Against Canada, Morocco

Rabat - Belgian football star Romelu Lukaku is set to miss his team’s World Cup games against Canada and  Morocco.

A source within the Belgium national team confirmed the news to AFP.

Belgium started their training session in Qatar on Sunday without Lukaku who suffered an injury to his left thigh.

The footballer incurred the injury on October 31, three weeks ahead of the World Cup during a match with his Italian club Inter Milan.

Lukaku’s injury caused concern for Belgium as the football player is his national team’s first-choice striker.

It remains unclear who the Red Devils will choose as a replacement during the decisive matches in Group F. Belgium will play its World Cup opener against Canada without Lukaku on November 23.

The football star will also miss his match against Morocco’s Atlas Lions on November 27.

Belgian football player Timothy Castagne said on Saturday that his team is now in recovery time to ready itself for the tournament.

The Red Devils headed to their base at Salwa Beach in Qatar to prepare for their opening Group F game against Canada.

“Here, we are much quieter, we have more time for recovery and to be in a group. It is sure that we are well compartmentalized, ” Castagne said on Saturday. 
 Belgium’s head coach Roberto Martinez commented on his team’s participation in the World Cup following a friendly match against Egypt. 

The Egyptian national team, which is not going to Qatar for the World Cup, won the game on Friday 2-1.

“Mentally we were not ready for this match. We were not good in possession, there was too little pace, no offensive balance, we rarely got to the second ball,” Martinez said.

He added that the friendly was a wake-up call, stressing that some of the players on Egypt’s team performed better than his team.

“It was as if a lot of our guys just didn’t want to get hurt,” he explained.
