Prime Minister Liz Truss was informed of the death of Queen Elizabeth II at 4:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. in Bucharest), the Prime Minister's official spokesperson said, according to The Guardian. The official announcement was made at 18.30 (20.30 in Bucharest). British sources claim the Queen died around 12:00 p.m.

The British Prime Minister was announced by Cabinet Secretary Simon Case.

After the statement in Downing Street, Truss spoke to King Charles III and is also expected to chair a meeting of ministers at 9pm (11pm in Bucharest).

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at the age of 96, after 70 years of reign.

Upon the Queen's death, Prince Charles immediately became the new monarch. No official details have been released about what will happen in the coming days, but it is anticipated that the Queen will be given a full state funeral, as is traditional to mark the death of a monarch.

A period of national mourning has begun, which will last until the funeral, which is expected to take place 10 days after the Queen's death. Her body will be moved to Buckingham Palace, where it will likely remain for five days.

The government is expected not to announce other matters unless they are urgent to allow attention to be fully focused on the Queen. Major sporting events, including football and cricket matches, are likely to be postponed as a mark of respect.

The king will sign off on the final plans in the coming days.
