Desktop computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, various gadgets, these are the possibilities you have at your disposal so that you can continue to study virtually or work away from home during this period.

Is it necessary to have a supercomputer with high performance characteristics to study or work from home? The answer is that it depends. All applications have minimum requirements to work properly. For some digital educational platforms, the needs are very basic. Specifically, you need a 1.5 Ghz processor, 512 MB RAM, a 20 GB hard drive and an Internet connection of at least 256 Kbps. These are the simplest features you can have on cheap laptops. However, in order to perform well and not suffer too much discomfort, you may need to look for superior features.

Today, there are cheap laptops known as "entry-level" laptops that are designed and developed to meet the basic needs of an average student.

This means that these cheap laptops will have enough RAM, hard drive, and processing power to run multiple applications at once, Windows 10, which is the operating system, productivity and teleconferencing solutions, and Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, and Power Point), a key tool for creating, collaborating and using documents and cloud storage.

The configuration of these cheap "input" laptops is generally a 4 GB RAM, a 64 GB SSD hard drive and an Intel Celeron Dual Core processor. While the 64GB hard drive may seem like too little for all the content you'll be able to generate, this is counteracted by cloud storage tools such as OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, among others, which offer students and additional cloud storage workers.

In the lower price range we will have essentially two options of cheap laptops to consider: devices that at the hardware level perform the automation and navigation tasks we need, but less comfortable to carry due to the design, size and / or or weight.

The other option is devices that stand out for their lightness, but may not meet all the requirements in terms of specifications. The best choice? The middle ground between the two, although we have to sacrifice ourselves in a certain section.

Desktop computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone
A very common question is whether we prefer a desktop or a laptop and again the answer is: it depends. The device to be used by a student must take into account certain factors, including the age, profile of each user and the physical space allocated to the device. But both options are recommended for students.

When there are many people who have to do digital activities in a house, it is not enough to have a single computer. However, it should be borne in mind that educational platforms generally have mobile options that can be accessed from devices such as smartphones or tablets. The latter can be a good option because it does not cost as much as a laptop, but with the right accessories it can work as one.

Samsung, for example, recently launched its Galaxy Tab S6 Lite with a 10.4-inch wide screen and thin edges. It is designed for multitasking, note-taking, and watching videos or movies.

S and Note models also include the Samsung DEX option which, with the right peripherals (monitor, keyboard and mouse), can turn your smartphone into a desktop computer.

Is the monitor important?
If you have already decided on a desktop computer, another thing you need to take is the size of the monitor you are going to choose. This will depend on the activity you are going to have.

Some useful features of many of its monitors include reading mode, which prevents eye fatigue by reducing blue light and image stability. And for a more complete multi-tasking experience, it's best to use UltraWide monitors, which allow you to manage a 21: 9 screen.

This means 33% more screen and HDR 10 (High Dynamic Range), which improves the color and brightness of the screen. The monitors have the on-screen control function, so you can divide the screen according to your needs. For example, having programs like Zoom, Office utilities, and Internet browsers open at the same time without having to minimize screens makes your work or study more efficient.

A used computer or a new one?
Both options can be valid, as long as you make sure you buy them in a safe and reliable place, as well as get a good guarantee.
