The 51-year-old politician joined the Defense portfolio after the death of Carlos Holmes Trujillo.

 

 

 

After the death of Carlos Holmes Trujillo, on February 2 of this year, President Iván Duque announced the arrival of Diego Molano to the Ministry of Defense.

 

The man from Bogotá has had a long career in politics, so his arrival in the defense portfolio could have occurred without the death of Trujillo, to the extent that he had already contemplated resigning in order to be a presidential candidate.

 

 

The 51-year-old from Bogotá began his career under the guidance of former Caldense senator Luis Alfonso Hoyos, being his advisor during 1994 and 1998.

 

Later, Molano, who has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Universidad del Rosario, traveled to New York, United States, to do a Master's in Public Administration from Columbia University.

 

When he returned to the country he was a professor at the Faculty of Political Science, Government and International Relations of the Universidad del Rosario. From there he left to advise Astrid Álvarez in the Aqueduct and Sewerage Company of Bogotá.

 

 

In 2003 he began to work with Álvaro Uribe Vélez and from that moment on, he has been a key player in Uribismo. The top leader of the Democratic Center, gave him the position of coordinating the social component of Plan Colombia.

 

Thanks to the influence of Luis Alfonso Hoyos, he later went on to direct the Social Action programs of the Uribe government, when the general director of the entity was Luis Alfonso Hoyos.

 

After being for a year the Coordinator of the Midas Program of the United States Cooperation Agency, USAID, Molano returned to direct Acción Social in 2009; program that was in the eye of the hurricane in 2010 due to accusations of improper participation in politics in favor of Juan Manuel Santos.
