Apple has released the first public version for its new mobile operating systems: iOS 15 and iPad OS 15, announced last month at the WWDC 21 event. In fact, software developers already had access to iOS 15 in the test version since the event . However, now anyone with an iPhone or iPad tablet can install the new operating systems so they can test new features and see changes in interface and functionality. Here's how to sign up to test iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.

How to install iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 beta

Apple has had a program called "Apple Beta Software Program" for several years. Thus, regular users can sign up to test new software variants, both major and minor, before launch. iOS 15 is scheduled to be released sometime in September, but you can already test the first beta version, which will receive new updates over the next few weeks.

Before you begin, make sure you're backing up your current operating system from iOS 14, either to iCloud or locally, to a computer.

All you have to do to start the installation process is access the dedicated site and sign up for the program with your Apple ID: beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram. It is important to access the site on the device you want to enroll in the program, because from here you can download the configuration certificate for beta. Thus, the phone or tablet knows how to "request" the beta version of the software from Apple's servers.

Installing the update then is very simple. Just go to the Settings app in the General> Software Updates category and install the new update to iOS 15 Beta 1. Of course, your phone or tablet will restart during the process, and when it restarts the new software version is already running.

It is recommended to install the beta version only on devices that you do not use every day. Thus, in case of problems caused by the new software, such as incompatibility with certain applications or functions, you are not affected in daily use. Of course, it is best to wait for the final version, which, in theory, will be released with far fewer software issues.

But, if you've already installed a beta version of iOS or iPadOS and want to uninstall it, here's what you need to do.

How to uninstall iOS 15 beta

Unfortunately, there are no very simple ways to get back to a "stable" version. The first step would be to delete the configuration certificate from the Settings application in the General menu> Profiles & Device Management.

It's just that the only way you can get back to iOS 14 without using a computer is for Apple to release another stable update. Given that we are two months away from the launch of iOS 15, we will probably not receive any new updates of iOS 14. However, Apple has made surprise releases for the last few months for security updates.

However, if there is no stable update, you will have to use a computer and the iTunes application (PC) or directly the Finder on macOS.

Then put your phone in Recovery Mode:

For iPad models that do not have the main button: press and quickly release the volume up button. Quickly press and release the volume down button. Press and hold the top button until the device starts restarting. Keep pressing the top button until the device enters recovery mode.
iPhone 8 or later: Quickly press and release the volume up button. Quickly press and release the volume down button. Then press and hold the side button until you see the recovery mode screen.
For iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold the top (or side) and volume down buttons simultaneously. Hold down the buttons until the Recovery mode screen is displayed.
iPad with the home screen button, iPhone 6s or earlier and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold the home screen button and the top (or side) button simultaneously. Hold down the buttons until the Recovery mode screen is displayed.

Once in Recovery Mode and connected to the computer with a Lightning cable, you will be able to choose the Restore option, then Restore & Update. Thus, iTunes will download the latest stable version of iOS, in this case iOS 14. It is important to know that all data on the phone will be deleted and the restoration process could take over 15 minutes.

After completing the process, you will need to log in again with your Apple ID and choose to restore an iCloud backup. Alternatively, if you have backed up locally on your PC, you will be able to choose from iTunes or Finder the possibility of "restore backup". It is important to note that backups on iOS 15 will not work on iOS 14, so it will be important to have a backup before installing iOS 15 Beta. All activity on iOS 15 will be lost.
