Android or iOS phones and tablets may stop working, but no matter what device you have, there are simple solutions to fix this problem.

Like any electronic device that uses software, phones and tablets can suffer from certain malfunctions that can completely block them and make it impossible to turn them on.

Such a situation is encountered both in gadgets that use the Android operating system and in the case of an iPhone or iPad that uses iOS.

The good part is that there are some simple solutions to restart the device without having to pay a service visit. The downside is that the process will result in the loss of all data stored on the device.

That's why, even if you currently have a fully functional device, we recommend that you back up your really important data, possibly on a cloud service, so that in case of a problem you don't lose it permanently.

How to restart an Android phone or tablet

If you have a smartphone or tablet that uses the Android operating system, make sure the device is turned off and enters Recovery Mode.

This is a special menu similar to the computer's BIOS that is accessed through a combination of the home, volume, and volume buttons, which you press simultaneously for a few seconds. Unfortunately, each manufacturer uses a different combination for Recovery Mode access, which you need to search the internet for. For example, to enter Recovery Mode on a Samsung Galaxy S5 you need to press Volume Up, Home and Power simultaneously, while in the case of Nexus devices the combination is usually Volume Up, Volume Down and Power.

Used correctly, the key combination provides access to the Recovery Mode menu, which can only be used from the keys mentioned above, as there is no support for the touch function. Using the volume key select the “wipe data / factory reset” option and confirm the action with Yes.

After the restoration process you will have a phone or tablet exactly as it was when you bought it, without applications, personal files or other customizations. Basically, this function is similar to the factory reset option in the standard Android menu.

How to restart an iPhone or iPad

If you have an iPhone smartphone or an iPad tablet in the same condition, the solution is a bit more complicated, as you need a computer, iTunes and a USB cable.

The first step is to connect the device to the computer via the cable you received with the purchase, and then you need to start the iTunes application.

At this point, you just need to press and hold the Home button on your phone or tablet until iTunes detects that your device has entered Recovery Mode. The process can take up to 30 seconds, so be patient until you notice a message from iTunes informing you that the device has been detected.

From here, things are as simple as possible: select Restore and wait for iTunes to perform the reset operation, similar to the "Reset all settings" in the iOS menu.

If all went well, after performing these simple steps you should have a working device with Android or iOS again. As you have noticed, the operation itself is not complicated at all, but if you encounter problems for various reasons, do not hesitate to tell us what happened in the comments section below. We will try to help you as soon as possible.
