Recently I was talking with Rubén Hoyo, our editor-in-chief, about the peculiar case of the Grand Cherokee and that is that, despite the veteran of the fourth generation, its sales not only remain firm, but also, without necessarily being a vehicle premium, it does have the perception of a large part of the public to be premium.

What's going on?

It might seem that this SUV is proof of everything, even time, but the reality is that a generational change was urgent, since it is also true that despite the efforts of FCA, each time it was lagging behind against last-minute rivals baked. And yes, after much speculation, the fifth generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is finally unveiled, which is presented as the most refined, technological and sophisticated in history. So much so, that now more than ever it could establish itself as a vehicle of the so-called premium lineage.

The new generation sports a design that, although easily recognizable as a member of this dynasty, has little to do with the now outgoing model. In fact, they have a certain neo-retro air (the brand insists that it is inspired by the original CJ), which at the same time is inspired by what is seen in the Grand Wagoneer Concept, with the front and rear light clusters being slim LED, as well as the grille. and the general square lines which are most reminiscent of the next new flagship of the brand.

By the way, if you wonder what the "L" that accompanies the Grand Cherokee means, it is that it is now available with three rows of seats and the capacity to carry six or seven passengers. With this, now more than ever it can compete against most of the rivals that already had this handy configuration (70% of sales in the segment where it participates demand with this characteristic). Those looking for the traditional five-passenger configuration will have to wait until the end of 2021, when the 4xe plug-in hybrid version could also debut.
