A few good weeks ago we were driving the new JMC Vigus Work, one of the many novelties that appeared in the quarantine period and that reaches a fairly competitive segment; the one of the trucks of a ton, but in the category of access, where we can see models like the JAC T6 or some of the old Wingle of Great Wall. And if we consider the tightness of the segment in terms of prices and offers, you really have to have differentiating attributes to stand out.

Special design
One of the most controversial points of the Vigus Work and that is inherited from the standard Vigus is the questioned design of its front. Honestly, it may be the "ugliest" release we've had this year. The design is subjective, but here there is no subjectivity that saves it:

The trapezoidal-shaped main air intake is more prominent, though smaller than on the regular Vigus, making the slim upper grille that joins the spotlights look a bit more proportionate. The JMC logo does not look very integrated into the overall design of the truck and appears to have been installed later.

The questionable large air intake that serves as the main grill, while giving the Vigus Work identity and recognition (you're not going to confuse it with any other truck), is the least attractive point. He earned nicknames of all kinds, from "Darth Vader" to "cod." On the street, he attracted attention.
The good news is that it achieves an aerodynamic design, rare in a work truck.
Compared to the standard Vigus, it has thinner tires (245/70 R16), gray handles and fog lights with a different design.
Highlights are its accessories: it has tires, sills, similar "anti-roll" bars on the pick-up and hooks on the outside to tie down cargo.
The wheel arches are very marked which helps it look imposing.
The gate is a bit heavy.
The pick-up, like all modern trucks, comes with a Line-X / Marson type synthetic liner that replaces the classic plastic bedliner.

Its dimensions are quite similar to that of its rivals. Perhaps it is not very high and its clearance is not the most generous among its rivals, but it has good access angles, the pick-up is quite high and due to its prominent front, it is positioned as one of the longest. Its 845kg load capacity also makes it one of the most load-bearing trucks, versus the JAC T6 or Dongfeng DF6.

Inside
Where we like the Vigus Work the most is inside, especially for its design, its assembly, its good soundproofing and its comfort.

The first thing that stands out is that it has rubbery-touch (soft) polymers on the top of the console and doors, something very rare in the segment and that denotes a concern.
The design, although not the latest generation, is still modern for a truck and the best: it is honest, that is, except for some aluminum-colored details, there are no pretentious materials.
The ergonomics are fantastic: everything is close at hand and everything is very neat.
The 7 "touchscreen multimedia system, although it does not have CarPlay or Android Auto, has an easy-to-use interface and somewhat mimics the look of Ford's Sync system. It was no, since JMC and Ford are partners.
You're not going to find any buttons or knobs that look "generic Chinese": clunky knobs, buttons that look like "calugas", or indicators with generic numbers or fonts.

Despite the fact that the upholstery is not perceived as very good quality and that the lower cushions are somewhat small, the seats are among the most comfortable that I have tried at the origin. They are soft and offer good lateral support, which helps comfort.
The instrument panel is very legible, it has analog indicators for the tachometer, speedometer, tank and temperature, plus a small screen for the on-board computer.
The floor is vinyl, ideal for work. There is no carpet or rubber flooring. It is easy to wash and sweep.
Rear seats:

This is a flat bench, with room for three people, however we recommend that it be only for two, because it has only two headrests and two three-point belts - it is not safe for the middle occupant.
Offers good visibility and good head and knee room.
Has handles to get on and a 12v outlet
The backrest can be folded down, as can the bench, which can be folded up, offering more loading solutions. Ideal if you want to carry something in the rear seats that you cannot leave exposed in the pick-up.
