No one can doubt that the automobile sector has helped the progress of society. Many of his advances have ended up being applied, in one way or another, to everyday life. That's not to mention that vehicles have saved many lives over the years. Now manufacturers are betting on electric mobility and, as expected, they also think about helping people. The best example is in the Nissan RE-LEAF.

We all know the Leaf, the electric hatchback from the Japanese firm. Their success is undeniable and with him in mind they have created the RE-LEAF. The mission of this concept is very simple and clear: to help the victims of a natural disaster. And you will wonder, what does a Leaf paint in a situation like that? Simple, one of the reasons for the power outage stems from the increasingly numerous adverse weather events that the world is experiencing.

Nissan RE-LEAF is a concept showcasing V2G and V2X technology

According to a 2019 World Bank report, climate change and natural shocks caused 37 percent of power outages in Europe between 2000 and 2017. This figure is higher in the United States, since during the same time period the it stood at 44 percent. In these situations, the time needed to restore service is between 24 to 48 hours and that is where electric vehicles come into play.

And that's where the Nissan RE-LEAF comes in, a working concept car showcasing the standard LEAF's two-way charging technology. This means that it can not only "pull" energy to recharge the high-capacity battery, but also "push" it into the grid via V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technology. This process can also be run directly to electrical devices via V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything).

According to data provided by Nissan, the Leaf e + with a 62 kWh battery can power an average European household for six days. But also, as a disaster recovery vehicle, the RE-LEAF increases its performance. Thus, it can simultaneously supply various items such as an electric hammer, soup kettle, intensive care medical respirator or a 100-watt LED projector.

Regarding its aesthetics, the RE-LEAF has a greater suspension height and the necessary accessories to provide its service. However, we know that it will not reach the market, but the idea will appeal to more than one country.
