Dark
Before the announcement that Phase 4 of the economic reactivation would begin in October, the vice dean of the Medical College of Peru (CMP), Ciro Maguiña, warned that the operation of bars, discos, cinemas and soccer could generate an increase in cases of contagion of the new coronavirus. He reiterated that despite the fact that a decrease in infections has been reported, caution must still be exercised with the actions taken in full state of emergency by COVID-19 in the country to avoid a second outbreak. “We are with a slight decrease and the outlook to come is still worrying because in Lima only 25% to 30% have only been infected [with COVID-19] and although the trend is downward in these weeks there are still 75 % of people who may get sick in these months or next year. So, lowering your guard does not mean that things are smoother, "he said in an interview with 90 Matinal en Latina. “I would say that now it is more dangerous because as many aspects of the economy open up there is a contagion march. That is to say, I am not opposed to closing the economy, but not bars, not discos, not football, not cinemas because obviously they are sources that can increase the rate of infected ”, Maguiña explained. Likewise, the infectologist pointed out that the first outbreak of coronavirus infections has not yet ended in the capital and that a second outbreak may occur in other regions. In that sense, he reiterated his exhortation to citizens not to lower their guard by stating that the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine will delay. “In Lima it has not yet finished controlling the first outbreak. We have to wait another month. October or November, but in Loreto and Lambayeque it can happen at any time because they have already passed the first outbreak and that happens in countries where it had apparently been controlled and look at Spain, Italy. The lessons of other countries must be learned. People think of the vaccine as if it is going to be around the corner, it is going to take time. It must be said. Science has taught us that it is not easy to obtain a vaccine, "he said. “The trend is slow and important, but we have not yet finished controlling the first outbreak that hopefully will be controlled by the end of the month. I don't trust the figures because this pandemic in Peru has given us many surprises, ”he added. Regarding the reactivation of international flights, Maguiña considered that the entry of citizens from countries that still do not control their figures against COVID-19 should not be approved. “If the trend is downward, some airports with non-polluted countries could reopen. Brazil would be dangerous or Spain. It should be reopened depending on which countries are controlled by the pandemic. Same with domestic tourism in Peru. Places where we are controlled could be opened gradually. But opening abruptly seems wrong to me and that is what should be evaluated based on the trend. Imagine if there is a regrowth in Loreto or Lambayeque that is a topic of the day of the day. Decisions should not be given by decree or by the week, but based on the trend, "he concluded.
