HiTLeR Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 US sanctions against two companies in Lebanon linked to Hezbollah On Thursday, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on two companies in Lebanon linked to Hezbollah. The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on Arch Consulting for Engineering Studies and Consulting and Architecture Construction Engineering and Contracting for being owned, controlled, or directed by Hezbollah. In addition, the OFAC designated Sultan Khalifa Asaad, an official in the Hezbollah Executive Council, which is closely linked to the two companies. Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin said that by exploiting the Lebanese economy and mani[CENSORED]ting corrupt Lebanese officials, companies associated with the terrorist organization are being awarded government contracts, and that the United States will remain committed to targeting Hezbollah and its supporters because they are corruptly exploiting Lebanese resources to enrich their leaders, while the Lebanese people are suffering from Insufficient services. The inclusion of individuals and entities on the sanctions list by the US Treasury effectively isolates them from the global financial system, freezes any assets they have under US jurisdiction, and warns non-US institutions from dealing with them. The relationship between America and Iran has been strained since 2018, after the administration of US President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal with Tehran and re-imposed economic sanctions on it.
