Mindsphere. Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 [EN] They are and we see them everywhere, on natural meadows or in gardens, on any other green surface that grows in any corner. Dandelion is ubiquitous and maybe that's why we don't give it too much importance. But its role in nature is well defined, as we will see below, and the qualities of this plant are numerous and, unfortunately, little known. Here are some unknowns about dandelion: Unknown things about dandelion I said in another material that one of the trends that is now manifesting in big cities is gardening in order to protect insects, more precisely by cultivating those plants that support pollinating insects. Due to insect pollination, people are provided with healthy crops, which is essential for agriculture. A major problem for the environment is the decrease in the number of pollinating insects, and to maintain a constant number of insect species they are now grown in farms, in order to sufficiently pollinate plants in fields, orchards or greenhouses at the flowering stage. Help given to pollinating insects Well, dandelion is perhaps the best friend of these pollinating insects. From early spring to late autumn, this plant is always in bloom. The peak period is March-May, just when bees and other pollinating insects come out of hibernation. Each dandelion flower, say the specialists quoted by The Guardian newspaper, contains another 100 stamens soaked in nectar and pollen. For this reason, dandelion is, especially in early spring, a vital source of food for pollinators. Many see it only as a weed and when we mow the grass we do not think that dandelion has a very important role in the cycle of nature, especially in the current context of aggressive industrialization and urbanization, with direct effects on the environment. All the more so in cities, where the mist of greenery in the asphalt sea must be protected. If you are not fully convinced of the role of dandelion in this whole pollination process, we also tell you that the young leaves of the plant are full of vitamins and antioxidants and, for this reason, are edible, and that its dried root can be ground in what can be a coffee substitute. Some soak the flowers and make wine from them while dandelion juice has long been used to heal warts. Moreover, dandelion tea helps relieve stomach pain. Skin diseases, asthma, hypotension, poor circulation, ulcers and constipation - natural medicine has found in the "weed" around us a reliable ally. 1
