At the beginning of the current year, it was speculated that the Federal Capital administration was trying to launch an online service to facilitate the citizens to pay token tax payments to the excise department without any hassle.

Finally, now, for vehicles registered with the Excise and Taxation Office in Islamabad, payments for the token tax can now be made through an online system. This is a pivotal move by the Excise and Taxation Department in integrating technology into the public sector.

The convenience of paying from anywhere is what every citizen wants. Standing in long queues is tiresome and time-consuming. Citizens will not have to visit the premises of the Excise and Taxation office physically. The convenience factor of the online payments might prompt people to make the token tax payments earlier than before. This can help the Excise and Taxation Department get token tax revenues on time. After making the payment, your record will be updated in real-time.

These online payments will be received by all branches of the National Bank of Pakistan. To achieve this end, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  was signed in October between the National Bank of Pakistan and the Excise and Taxation Department Islamabad. These token tax payments can be made from all over Pakistan by the owners of vehicles. The excise and Taxation Department is also working on a similar framework for the property sector. Previously, the Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad issued a directive cautioning those who had not yet paid the annual token tax on their vehicles. After this, the ETO took action against these people with the help of the Islamabad Traffic Police.

The information regarding the new online service was given in a ceremony conducted by the Excise and Taxation Department. Director Excise and Taxation, Bilal Azam, stated that an online system had been set in place for the token tax payments and vehicle registration. In the near future, a mobile application can also be used to make these payments to the Excise and Taxation Department. This online service is particularly beneficial for those who are living outside of Islamabad and cannot come to the Federal Capital to make the token tax payments.
