They introduced the first electric Lexus

With Lexus hybridizing its entire model range, next year in Europe (and around the world) we will see the first all-electric model of the brand.

Despite being a leader in hybrid technology, Lexus and the parent company Toyota have fallen short of the global trend. But that changed after the two companies embraced full electrification (along with the rest of the industry) with the UX 300e: the first step in Japan's Lexus Electrified initiative.

Based on the sub-compact SUV launched last year, the electric UX 300e is powered by a front-mounted electric motor with 204hp. It is powered by a 54.3 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides a range of up to 400 km, but according to the old NEDC cycle. The battery pack is mounted under the floor of the vehicle, reducing the center of gravity. This, together with the additional processing of the suspension and dampers, enhances the handling characteristics.

Apart from the model-specific wheels and the "electric" emblem, there are no other differences with the hybrid or ICE versions. Lexus does not yet reveal any details about the model's dynamics, but promises that the UX 300e will be "nimble". The driver will be able to rely on Drive Mode Select to configure the dynamics according to their needs, with the vehicle equipped with a brake system offering four levels of energy recovery. Active Sound Control (ASC) is a curious system that injects ambient sounds into the interior to give the driver and passengers a natural feel for the road conditions.

The LexusLink app will allow the owner to track the battery charge and remaining mileage of their smartphone. It will also keep track of when the battery will be fully charged to allow the owner to schedule the charge according to their needs. Of course, there will also be the possibility of remote control of various functions, such as air conditioning, seat heating and window defrosting.
